Nie Haisheng, from bad boy to astronaut

Nie Haisheng was born poor, was naughty when he was a child, didn't like to study, and almost dropped out of school. But he gradually realized the importance of learning, began to work hard, successfully counterattacked, and created many firsts in the history of China's aerospace.

The hardships of life create a tenacious personality. Nie Haisheng, the fourth son of this poor family, was born in September 1964 in a small village in northwestern Hubei Province.

His parents are farmers and he already has five older sisters, and his arrival has made the whole family happy. In order to celebrate the first boy in the family, his father went to the street to buy a small firecracker and pampered him.

Later, his mother added a son and a daughter to him, and the family size was as large as ten. However, the family of 10 is dependent on their parents working in the production team to earn a share of the work, and food rations are still scarce.

The staple food at home is often mixed bread with pickle gnocchi, and it is normal for children to satisfy their hunger with wild vegetables. In this poor family, children's clothes are often worn in turns from oldest to smallest, and Nie Haisheng is no exception, his sisters' old clothes have become his clothes, and when there are no shoes, he can only walk barefoot.

However, these difficult life experiences shaped his indomitable character and hard-working spirit, which laid a solid foundation for his later aerospace career.

Nie Haisheng was a naughty child when he was a child, and he often wreaked havoc in the village, and the people in the village avoided it. During elementary school, he never liked to study and was a "bad student" in the eyes of his teachers.

When the elders of the family saw this "bad boy", they shook their heads again and again, persuading his parents not to let him go to school anymore so as not to waste money. However, Haisheng's parents firmly believe that they are facing the loess with their backs to the sky, and hope that their children will be successful through education.

As he grew older, Haisheng began to change, paid attention to learning, and his grades improved significantly. In the last year of primary school, he was particularly outstanding in his class, and his classmates called him "the king of mathematics", and he scored 105 points in every mathematics test.

Originally, the full score for mathematics was 100 points, but in order to encourage studious students, the teacher would add 5 points to the first student to turn in the paper. Haisheng was the first to hand in the paper every time, so he got a full score every time, and naturally got 105 points.

However, the good times are always short-lived, and when Haisheng was in the second grade of junior high school, his father died, which was undoubtedly worse for the originally poor family.

The mother carried all the burdens of the family on her weak shoulders and struggled to survive by the labor of one person. Schooling is more dangerous than life. On the first day of junior high school, Haisheng did not appear in class.

Principal Du Benwu was very concerned about this excellent student and came to Haisheng's home in person. The mother complained to the principal about the family's difficulties and asked the school to waive the child's school fees.

Du Benwu was moved by this strong mother and opened a green channel for Haisheng's studies. Haisheng, who was helped, worked harder and was finally admitted to high school with excellent grades.

In March 1983, the Air Force came to Haisheng's school to recruit pilots. As soon as he heard that he was admitted to the Air Force pilot, not only did he not have to pay tuition, but even the food expenses were covered by the country, Haisheng was ecstatic and still decided to take the exam.

The selection of Air Force pilots was extremely strict, and only 4 candidates passed the exam, but fortunately Haisheng was successfully selected. After graduation, Haisheng became a pilot in a certain unit of the Nanchang Air Force, and made many achievements in his flying career.

In January 1998, China's first astronaut brigade was established in Beijing Aerospace City, with good physique and excellent flight ability, Haisheng stood out among 1506 pilots, and finally became a member of 14 astronauts.

Fourth, Haisheng's aerospace road 1In 2003, Haisheng, along with Yang Liwei and Zhai Zhigang, became China's first space astronaut candidate. However, since the "Shenzhou 5" could only carry one person, Haisheng became a backup astronaut.

2.Two years and one day later, on October 17, 2005, Nie Haisheng and Fei Junlong successfully entered space on the "Shenzhou 6". Eight years later, in 2013, Haisheng once again made history by becoming the commander of China's "Shenzhou 10" spacecraft, successfully completing the first space mission, demonstrating the great spirit of the Chinese.

3.Today, Hai Sheng, as the captain of the Chinese Aerospace Brigade, has carried out three manned missions of the Shenzhou spacecraft. Although the mission is heavy, it may not be long before he embarks on a fourth journey into space.
