Luding Bridge, also known as the Chain Bridge, located in Luding County, Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China, is an ancient suspension bridge whose history bears the bravery and wisdom of the Chinese people. Today we take a look back at its history and learn the story behind it. Luding Bridge

According to historical records, the Luding Bridge was built in September of the 44th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1705) to facilitate people to cross the magnificent Dadu River. The bridge body is made of iron ingots, and the surface is coated with raw cowhide and hemp materials, so it is also commonly known as the iron rope bridge. The bridge is quaint and sturdy, a typical Tibetan rope bridge, with a total length of more than 100 meters, 13 piers, and each saddle bridge pillar is inlaid with a bagua pattern, which is very artistic. Its architecture is so exquisite that people are amazed and has become a pearl in ancient Chinese bridge architecture.

In 1935, when the Red Army encountered the Luding Bridge during the Long March, it assumed an even greater historical responsibility. At that time, the Red Army's advance was very dangerous due to enemy obstruction and natural hazards. Looking at the turbulent surface of the Dadu River, the enemy occupied the opposite bank, and the Red Army had no way out. And this Luding Bridge has become their only hope.

At this critical moment, 22 Red Army warriors resolutely jumped on the chain and walked on the crumbling suspension bridge. After a fierce battle of just 15 minutes, the heroic actions of this company broke through the enemy's defenses, successfully crossed the river, and laid the commanding heights on the opposite bank. This astonishing feat opened the way for the main forces of the Red Army to cross the Dadu River. That's what it's known for"The Red Army crossed Dadu"historical events.

This historical event of Luding Bridge is known as the "Iron Chain Golden Bridge", symbolizing the heroism and tenacious struggle of the Red Army. This ordinary small bridge has become world-famous because of the major historical events it carries, and has become a bridge of blood and heroes.

This is the historical story of Luding Bridge. Today, it still stands on the Dadu River, witnessing the flow of Chinese history, full of longevity and solemnity. Everyone who walks across the Luding Bridge will be deeply moved by its history and feel the unity and perseverance of the Chinese nation. For us, Luding Bridge is not only a bridge, but also a spirit, that is, the heroic spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and persevering to the end, which is our Luding Bridge spirit.
