Recently, Professor Li Meijin of the Chinese People's Public Security University issued three articles criticizing the TV series "Flowers" from the plot to the acting skills of the actors to the level of the director, causing controversy, and even Professor Li was subjected to online violence, losing hundreds of thousands of fans in a few days.
I don't know if Professor Li seriously reflected on it, or if she succumbed to the pressure on the Internet, she then posted a tribute to Wang Zhi, and said, "I was reckless before", which was a big surprise. I don't know if she is sincerely afraid of "risking" the world's disapproval, or is she restless because she has "lost" hundreds of thousands of fans?
After a few days of precipitation", Professor Li posted again, "understand the three questions of his own evaluation of "Flowers", saying that he has not read the original work, and his appreciation of film and television works is only at the primary level, and his criticism of Director Wang is "ignorance of the layman is fearless", and finally said "Seriously reflect on yourself, although you are old, your knowledge is still limited, and you must be cautious in the future".
This is simply a white flag and a subordinate, which really subverts people's perception of Professor Li.
You must know that Wong Kar-wai has changed the original work, but he is selling dog meat on the head of a sheep, how much does it have to do with whether he has read the original book or not?
The appreciation of literary and artistic works really needs to be cultivated, just as Professor Li would not have become a psychologist without some hard work. But normal literary criticism has no necessarily relationship with the level of appreciation, and every audience has the right to say their true views and express their own opinions, but whether the criticism belongs to the finishing touch or the difference between the advantages and disadvantages of scratching the boots. If you don't have any impressions and opinions after reading it, then your appreciation is really too low or the work can't resonate.
As for "the ignorance of the layman is also fearless", it is purely self-deprecating, can you, as a psychologist, only teach psychology students or only communicate with psychologists? Or can a literary work only be seen or commented on by experts?
As the saying goes, live to learn, and Professor Li Meijin's final statement is commendable. But are there no merits in Professor Li's three batches of "Flowers"? Of course, what she criticized does exist in "Flowers", but she does not point to the point, that is, she does not use the historical, people, artistic, and aesthetic viewpoints to judge and appreciate the works, enhance the persuasiveness, charisma, and vitality of literary criticism, and strengthen its role in acupuncture and disadvantages, and in promoting turbidity.
Literature and art can go as far as criticism goes. Qing Zheng Banqiao said well: "Scratching the boots and praising what is beneficial, and scolding into the wood is also fine." As a wonderful flower in the cultural and artistic garden, the flower of criticism is always undefeated, and with its "independent personality" and humanistic care, it profoundly and permanently influences, promotes, and leads literary and artistic creation to stride forward.
In a sense, there is no absolutely impartial criticism, only criticism that is close to objectivity. Pluralistic criticism and multi-angle criticism are important soil for objective and fair commentary.
Literary and artistic criticism must be based on the spirit of independent personality, dare to seek truth from facts in terms of artistic quality and level, dare to express an attitude towards all kinds of undesirable literary and artistic works, phenomena, and trends of thought, dare to take a stand on major issues of right and wrong, and stand on an independent personal standpoint.
From the three batches of TV series "Flowers" to "Bear the Guilt of Jing Petition", did Professor Li lose his independent critical personality?
