Mao Zhiyong, a native of Yueyang, Hunan Province, was born in 1929 and studied in his hometown in his early years. In 1951, at the age of 22, he began his career as a financial assistant in the Third District Office of Yueyang County, Hunan Province, and began to work at the local grassroots level.
Today, we're going to share his story.
Mao Zhiyong was born in a poor peasant family and knew the hardships of the people's lives. In his work, he feels a great responsibility, especially in the position of money and grain management, which is never an easy task.
However, Mao Zhiyong has a serious and meticulous attitude, upholds the spirit of conscientiousness, and does his work well. This kind of work experience not only enabled him to be personally trained, but also accumulated rich grassroots work experience, which laid a solid foundation for him to take up important positions in the future.
In 1960, with his outstanding talent and leadership, Mao Zhiyong successively served as the deputy secretary of the Yueyang County Party Committee, the deputy secretary of the Yueyang Prefectural Party Committee and the secretary of the county party committee, leading the Yueyang area to achieve a great breakthrough in agricultural production, so that the Yueyang model has a far-reaching impact on the whole country.
Mao Zhiyong's merits also made him one of the representatives of outstanding grassroots cadres in Hunan. However, with the advent of the ten-year special period in 1966, Mao Zhiyong, like many grassroots cadres, was forced to accept criticism and shock.
During this period, Mao Zhiyong showed firm belief and extraordinary wisdom. When the rebels asked him to recite the "Quotations", he calmly responded and answered fluently, so that the rebels had no choice but to let him go.
During that special period, although Mao Zhiyong was criticized, he did not stop working. Especially in 1967, when there was a catastrophic flood in the Dongting Lake area, Mao Zhiyong spent his days in criticism during the day, but he still insisted on the front line of rescue and disaster relief at night.
Due to overwork, Mao Zhiyong fainted at the scene of emergency rescue and disaster relief. When the local people saw this scene, they were deeply distressed, so they ostensibly criticized Dou Mao, but in fact, they wanted to protect him, so that he could eat hot meals and sleep peacefully.
At the end of the 10-year special period, Mao Zhiyong was reused for his outstanding leadership skills and excellent execution ability. In 1977, he was appointed First Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, responsible for leading the overall work of Hunan.
During his tenure of office, he resolutely implemented the policies of his superiors, actively carried out the work of rehabilitating unjust, false and wrongly decided cases, released a large number of outstanding cadres who had been wrongfully imprisoned, and made great contributions to the restoration of Hunan's political ecology.
At the same time, he also actively promoted Hunan's economic reform, adhered to the concept of "opening up for opening up, and promoting development through opening up", and pointed out the direction for Hunan's rapid economic development.
Under his leadership, Hunan has made remarkable achievements in both political and economic fields.
In 1988, Mao Zhiyong was transferred to Jiangxi and became a local"Top Hands"Secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. During his work in Jiangxi, Mao Zhiyong put forward the slogan of "as long as the ideology does not slip, there are always more ways than difficulties", and in the process of building the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, with the dedication of the Red Army, he fully supported the construction of the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, made great contributions to the railway running through Jiangxi, and at the same time promoted the local economic development.
In 1998, Mao Zhiyong was elected vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and became a deputy state-level cadre. After retiring in 2003, Mao Zhiyong could choose to enjoy his old age in the big city, but chose to return to his birthplace, Xichong Village, Yueyang County, to become a farmer.
Mao Zhiyong's choice in his later years was pastoral life. He farms like a farmer, raises poultry, cleans the coop himself, and lives like a farmer, which he never tires of.
In the countryside, Mao Zhiyong set an example for the villagers with practical actions, led everyone to build bridges and paved roads, achieved common prosperity, and made outstanding contributions to the development of his hometown.
In 2019, the venerable old man passed away due to illness at the age of 90.
