According to Shanghai Translation Publishing House, 2021 Nobel Laureate Abdelrazak Gurnah will visit China for the first time in early March this year, and will carry out a number of literary and cultural exchange activities in Shanghai, Ningbo and Beijing.
In 2021, Gurnah was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his "uncompromising and compassionate insight into the impact of colonialism and the fate of refugees in the divide between different cultures and continents." Born on a small island off the coast of East Africa and later emigrated to England as a refugee, the writer is adept at depicting the wandering minds of strangers: "memory", "refugees", "identity", "cruelty", "love" and "weakness" are consistent themes in his work.
At present, Shanghai Translation Publishing House has published 10 of Gurnah's novels, including the first series of "Paradise", "Afterlife", "In Praise of Silence", "The Last Gift", "By the Sea", and the second series of "Memories of Parting", "The Pilgrim's Road", "Dottie", "Abandonment" and "Gravel Heart".
The event was jointly launched by Shanghai Translation Publishing House, Douyin "Da Youxue" and Douyin e-commerce "Douyin National Good Books Project". For the latest itinerary and event details, please pay attention to the official accounts of "Shanghai Translation" platforms.
