Japan hopes that China can resume visa free travel to Japan, but it is stumped by these four words

Mondo Tourism Updated on 2024-02-01

Before the pandemic, there were only three countries where China was unilaterally exempt from visas: Brunei, Singapore, and Japan.

After the epidemic, the visa exemption was discontinued.

Now that the pandemic has passed, the world has returned to normal.

China reinstated visa-free travel to Singapore and Brunei in July last year, but not to Japan.

Subsequently, China expanded the scope of unilateral visa-free countries on a trial basis, and tried to implement unilateral visa-free visas for holders of ordinary passports from six countries, namely France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia, for a period of one year, and no visas were required for business trips and tourism with a stay of less than 15 days.

This year, it also reached a long-term mutual exemption with the tourist ** route "New Malaysia and Thailand".

Seeing that China's visa-free countries have opened up one after another, the visa-free visa to Japan has not been restored.

Since the visa exemption has not yet been restored, short-term business trips require complicated procedures, and the Japanese business community is very much looking forward to reinstating China's original 15-day visa-free policy for Japan.

Japan is probably in a hurry!

On January 23, the Japan-China Economic Association led a Japanese economic delegation of up to 180 people to China.

This is the first visit by a Japanese economic delegation to China in four years and four months since the pandemic.

During this period, Japan proposed that in order to facilitate people-to-people exchanges, it would like to resume visa-free measures for Japanese nationals to enter China for short-term stays as soon as possible.

In fact, as early as June last year, the Asahi Shimbun broke the news that Japan hoped that China would resume visa-free access to Japan.

However, China hopes to promote this matter on the principle of reciprocity, and the Japanese side has expressed great difficulty, so it has not resumed the visa-free policy for Japan.

Although China has not reinstated visa-free access to Japan, it has also relaxed visa procedures for Japan.

In August last year, the Chinese Embassy in Japan partially waived the requirement of fingerprinting when applying for a visa to China; In November, advance appointments at visa application centres were further cancelled and can be made with the necessary documents.

Japan, on the other hand, has always been very strict with China's visa policy.

Take the easiest tourist visa to apply for, Japan requires a deposit certificate of 100,000 yuan or salary statement for a single round trip to Japan. Tourist visas for multiple trips to and from Japan within three years need to pay taxes within nearly one year1Proof of deposit of more than RMB 70,000, or salary turnover of more than RMB 200,000, or RMB 600,000 or more; For a tourist visa that travels to and from Japan multiple times within five years, it is necessary to pay more than 80,000 RMB in taxes within one year, or a salary of more than 500,000 RMB within one year, or a deposit certificate of more than 1 million RMB.

No matter how many days you stay in Japan, you must apply for a visa in advance, and in principle, you need to apply through an agency designated by the embassy, and you do not accept individual applications.

From this point of view, it is not an exaggeration to put forward the principle of reciprocity, and it is indeed unreasonable to ask others to be exempted from visas, but they are strictly guarded against it.

This time, when the Japanese economic delegation visited China and raised the issue of visa exemption again, China still adhered to the "principle of reciprocity" and proposed that the premise of reinstating the short-term visa-free travel to China for Japanese nationals was that it hoped that Japan would also treat them equally and grant visa-free treatment to Chinese citizens holding diplomatic and official passports.

This demand can be regarded as a concession.

Now, the pressure on whether to resume visa-free travel has come to Japan's side.

It remains to be seen whether we can achieve mutual exemption!

Although it has little to do with ordinary tourists, if it can really be exempted, it is a good thing for business people who have business contacts with China and Japan and want to register a company in Japan to develop their business, and it will be more convenient for business exchanges between China and Japan!

Doing business in Japan and registering a Japanese company is more conducive to cooperating with local companies, obtaining some policy support, and making customs declaration and other aspects more efficient.

Moreover, Japan's manufacturing industry has a high international reputation, which is very beneficial to transnational operations, and is conducive to breaking the barriers of the West, and investing in Southeast Asia and other regions as a Japanese company, as well as favorable policies. 、

If you do cross-border e-commerce in Japan, operate on Amazon and other platforms, and have Japanese companies, the store has a higher reputation and can be more recognized by locals.

The requirements for opening a Japanese company are relatively relaxed, and the minimum amount of registered capital is 1 yen.

In Japan, as long as it is within the legal scope, most industries can apply for registration, including finance, investment, health care, shipping, import and export**, real estate, construction, decoration, information network, clothing and textiles, tourism, cultural publishing, etc.

If the registered capital reaches 5 million yen and meets certain conditions, you can also apply for a business management visa, and if you get the visa, you can bring your spouse and children to live in Japan and enjoy Japanese medical care and education.
