UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, delivered a speech at a public meeting of the Security Council on the Ukraine issue on Feb. 23, urging the international community to promote a political solution to the crisis.

Zhang Jun said that the Ukraine crisis has dragged on so far, showing a trend of prolongation, complexity and expansion. The fact that this avoidable tragedy has developed to the point where it is today is deplorable and deserves deep reflection. The international community should work together to actively seek a just and reasonable solution to promote a political solution to the crisis and bring peace to life at an early date.

First, we must always work to solve problems politically. China calls on relevant parties to adopt a responsible attitude, make constructive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation, and create favorable conditions for the resumption of negotiations.

Second, it is necessary to grasp the general direction of safeguarding common security. It is necessary to attach importance to the legitimate security concerns of all countries and fully understand that security is indivisible, that the security of one country cannot be at the expense of the security of other countries, and that regional security cannot be guaranteed by strengthening or even expanding military blocs. It must be pointed out that the security situation facing Europe today is closely related to NATO's repeated eastward expansion since the end of the cold war. China hopes that NATO will reflect on itself, get out of the cage of the Cold War mentality, and not act as a source of chaos to provoke bloc confrontation.

Third, we must actively manage the spillover impact. Under the pretext of responding to the Ukraine crisis, relevant countries have indiscriminately imposed unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction" to unjustifiably suppress enterprises of other countries, impacting the global industrial chain and disrupting the global order. China firmly opposes the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union on Chinese companies on the grounds of Ukraine, and will continue to take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens.

Fourth, it is necessary to actively advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world. It is impossible for the world to return to the era of colonialism, and international affairs should not be monopolized by a few countries, and it is neither reasonable nor feasible to try to obstruct the development and progress of other countries by means of hegemony and bullying. Major countries bear special responsibilities for world peace and security, and must handle their relations in a responsible manner, effectively manage differences, and seek win-win cooperation.

Zhang Jun said that China is not the creator of the Ukraine crisis, nor is it a party to it. China did not watch the fire from across the strait, let alone take the opportunity to make profits. On the Ukraine issue, China has always maintained that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be observed, the legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis should be supported. China will continue to play a constructive role and make unremitting efforts to promote the political settlement of the Ukraine issue. (ENDS).
