Modern ocean engineering is a multidisciplinary field, which not only includes the traditional structural design of marine engineering, but also covers multiple types of science and technology oriented by informatization, intelligence and greening. Over the years, the team has continuously optimized the construction of the discipline team, forming a multidisciplinary cross-integration layout with marine engineering as the main body and "electromechanical" and "automation" as the two wings, ranking among the best in the discipline construction of water conservancy engineering and ocean engineering in China.
The top-level design of the high-level discipline team by the team of the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering can be traced back to around 2000. At that time, research on marine structural health monitoring and vibration control was in full swing, and Li Huajun's students Wang Shuqing and Liang Bingchen were all interested in it. However, Li Huajun decided to explore the direction of environmental dynamics of marine engineering based on production practice and discipline development prospects, and jointly guided Liang Bingchen with experts in related fields at home and abroad to fully explore the theory and application methods of environmental elements such as hydrology and meteorology in the context of marine engineering. After more than 20 years of dedicated research, Liang Bingchen was named Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor and served as the Dean of the School of Engineering. Wang Shuqing became a distinguished professor of Taishan Scholars in Shandong Province and a winner of the National Outstanding Young Scholar, he concluded: "Academicians have rich experience in engineering practice, broad ideas and vision, and are more able to grasp where the frontier of science is." ”Create a talent highland and empower scientific and technological innovation. The team has delivered a large number of leading talents and backbone forces for China's marine industry, including 5 people who have won the "Outstanding Young Scholars", 1 person who has been selected into the "Changjiang Scholars Award Program", and 1 person who has won the National Famous Teacher Award; It has developed a technical system for marine engineering safety and disaster prevention, carried out a series of research and development of offshore construction technology and equipment, undertaken the first basic science center project and the first major project in the field of marine engineering of the National Natural Science Commission, and presided over a major innovation project in Shandong Province. "This is a beautiful stage for young teachers to pursue their dreams and explore science." In 2013, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the School of Engineering, Liu Yong, the youngest professor in the team at that time, spoke as a faculty representative. Today, he is the vice president of the school, and has been awarded the National Science Award for Distinguished Young Scientists, the Science Exploration Award, and the Outstanding Doctoral Supervisor of Shandong Province, and has never stopped exploring. Young teachers have grown up in the team. Associate Professor Du Junfeng has undertaken a number of scientific research tasks, and the "Floating Offshore Photovoltaic Construction" project he participated in is a 10-million-level project in cooperation with the East China Survey, Design and Research Institute of PowerChina Group, and it is also a new attempt to meet the national "double carbon" strategic needs. Professor Zhang Qiyi has been deeply involved in the production line for many years, and in order to overcome the technical problems of submarine cable and pipeline laying, he has successively gone to Yangzhou Baosheng Cable and Tianjin Waterway Bureau to understand the engineering needs, and has stayed for one or two months at a time, realizing the design, development and manufacturing of serialized equipment. In the eight years since joining the team, Professor Chen Xuguang has been selected for the Young Talent Lifting Project of the China Association for Science and Technology, won the second prize of the Ministry of Education's Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Outstanding Young Science Award. In 2022, the National ** Committee established it as a new discipline direction. With the support of multidisciplinary layout and high-level talent echelon, the team took the initiative to respond to industrial changes and the demand for engineering talents in the new era, and expanded the classroom from classrooms and laboratories to engineering sites.

On October 24, 2023, at the academic exchange meeting of Ocean University of China-China Merchants Industry Group Marine Engineering Equipment Collaborative Innovation Research Institute, Li Huajun accepted the letter of appointment from China Merchants Industry Group and became the chief scientist of the Innovation Research InstituteIt has opened another chapter in the exploration of school-enterprise integration and new path exploration of industry, education and research。The team also cooperated with industry leaders such as Sinopec, CCCC, CNOOC, and China Power Construction to overcome a series of engineering and technical problems, and the results were applied in the design, installation and operation and maintenance of offshore platforms, the construction of infrastructure projects along the Offshore Silk Road, and the development and utilization of marine renewable energy, which promoted the progress of the industry and achieved a "bumper harvest" of economic, ecological and social benefits.
Associate Professor Zhang Min of the Academic Exchange Seminar of Ocean University of China-China Merchants Industry Group Collaborative Innovation Institute of Marine Engineering Equipment still remembers the first technical service project of offshore wind power structure in China undertaken by the team, which was in 2008, when China's offshore wind power industry was just emerging, and there was no mature experience and technology to learn from. Li Huajun invited domestic and foreign scientific research institutes and industrial backbones to participate in the demonstration and discussion, and improved the design scheme from all angles as much as possible. The team worked together to overcome difficulties, and finally proposed five fixed offshore wind power structural types, and achieved remarkable results. The turntable of time was adjusted to 1999, and the team undertook the diagnosis and treatment of excessive vibration in the Chengdao oilfield. This was one of the "Top Ten Safety Hazards of Sinopec" that year, but the team withstood the pressure, with the research foundation accumulated in the field of marine engineering structure monitoring and vibration control, and carried out detection and analysis on the cold offshore platform for more than ten consecutive days during the treatment period, and finally put forward a scientific treatment method, which achieved remarkable treatment results and was highly recognized by the enterprise. Over the past 40 years, the marine engineering faculty team has worked hard to cut through the waves and become a well-known industry-university-research in-depth integration innovation team in this field. And all the setbacks and hardships experienced during this period have been brushed over by everyone. They are running ahead and taking the initiative to change, but what remains unchanged is to connect with real needs, solve engineering problems, and transform achievements into applications.
