On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, the day to welcome the God of Wealth has arrived! We should keep in mind the following four important principles: "1 do not go, 2 do not touch, 3 do not stay, 4 do". These traditions help us attract wealth.
1. Don't go - don't visit relatives. The fifth day of the first lunar month is the day to receive the God of Wealth, we must clean up at home, dispel bad luck, send away the poor God, and open the door to the God of Wealth. Therefore, it is not advisable to visit relatives. If we go to the door, we will make people feel unhappy, think that we are trying to rob them of their wealth, and we will also bring "poverty" to their homes. So it's wise not to visit relatives to avoid causing trouble to others.
2. Do not touch - do not do land work, do not cut hair.
1. No land work is carried out. On the fifth day of the first lunar month, the weather is usually warmer, and hard-working people start to work in the fields. However, we must bear in mind that the fifth day of the Lunar New Year is a special day when land work is taboo. Because it is believed that carrying out land work on this day may invite disaster and be detrimental to the fortune of the coming year. Therefore, it is taboo to carry out land work on the fifth day of the first month.
2. Do not cut hair. Elders believe that hair represents the beginning of financial fortune. It is unlucky to cut your hair on the fifth day of the first month. There is even a saying: "If you don't cut your hair in the first month, you will die if you cut your hair." Therefore, on the fifth day of the first month, you must avoid cutting your hair.
3 Leave no one behind – clean up garbage, old shoes, and broken items.
Clean up the garbage. This day is the day to send away the poor gods, and we must thoroughly clean up the garbage in our homes, leaving nothing behind. The cleaner it is, the more the God of Wealth likes it. If it is not cleaned up thoroughly, it can lead to poverty. Therefore, we need to remove all the garbage, which means that we will send away the difficulties and usher in a prosperous life in the new year.
Throw away old shoes. On the fifth day of the first lunar month, in addition to cleaning up the garbage, you also have to throw away old shoes. Because "shoes" and "evil" are homophonic, they have a bad meaning. Do not keep old shoes to ward off evil spirits and keep your family healthy and auspicious.
Throw away broken dishes. During New Year's banquets or treats, small defects such as broken dishes often occur due to the busy schedule. When we break it, we have to say "safe and easy", then wrap it in red paper, and throw it away together on the fifth day of the new year. Remember not to keep it.
4 to do - set off firecrackers, pick up the God of Wealth, dismantle the villain, chop the stuffing and pinch the villain's mouth.
Set off firecrackers. On this day, firecrackers should be set off from indoors to the outside to show "collapse".
Pick up the God of Wealth. Pick up the God of Wealth to be carried out a little earlier. Usually at 0:00 on the fifth day of the first lunar month, some people even start to light candles, place offerings, open doors and windows, and respectfully welcome the God of Wealth, hoping to bring wealth to their families. Offerings can include incense, candles, offerings, cakes, etc. People beat gongs and drums, set off firecrackers, burn incense, and respectfully greet the God of Wealth, calling it "grabbing the road" or "receiving the God of Wealth".
Demolish the villain. Folks believe that all the unhappiness in life is caused by "villains". Therefore, on the fifth day of the first lunar month, women will disassemble several old clothes, which they call "dismantling villains", to avoid bad luck.
Chop the stuffing and pinch the villain's mouth. The food custom corresponding to the fifth day of the first lunar month is to eat dumplings. On this day, the filling for making dumplings is chopped with a knife, which is called "chopping the villain". It's best to make the cutting board make a crisp sound so that the neighbors can hear it. When making dumplings, we have to pinch the edges of the dumplings one by one, commonly known as "pinching the villain's mouth". Through the ritual of chopping the villain and pinching the villain's mouth, it symbolizes the defeat of the villain's spirit and indicates that the new year will not be disturbed by the villain and live a smooth and happy life.
