Red Net Moment News reporter Li Lu correspondent Liu Wenxin reports.
In October 2023, Stanford University in the United States released the list of the world's top 2% scientists in 2023 (world's Top 2% Scientists), Liu Yani from the Hunan Academy of Environmental Protection was successfully selected, which is also the first time that researchers from the academy have been selected into the list.
Stanford University in the United States released the list of the world's top 2% scientists in 2023's top 2% scientists)。
From "purely accidental involvement" to "indispensable to life".
Liu Yani is an assistant researcher at the Provincial Academy of Environmental Protection Sciences, and her daily work mainly includes the declaration and implementation of scientific research projects, the concise summary of scientific research results, and the guidance of graduate students, as well as providing technical support for the formulation of policies and standards.
Thirteen years ago, like most students, Liu Yani did not know much about this subject when she filled in the volunteer, and her entry into the environmental field can be said to be "purely accidental". As she deepened her studies, she found it more and more interesting and could serve the public, so she decided to continue her studies and engage in related work. The process of learning and struggling in school also made Liu Yani fall in love with this discipline and aspire to fight for the cause of environmental protection for the rest of her life.
When Dr. Yani Liu graduated.
I stayed in the college for nine and a half years, and when I graduated, this experience took up one-third of my life," Liu Yani said, and the mission of growing up, studying and protecting the green mountains and rivers of Huxiang has become an indispensable part of her life.
Become the secret ingredient in the top 2% of the world.
What is it like to be in the industry for 13 years and become the top 2% in the world?
Liu Yani feels very honored. In her opinion, the field of the environment is broad and profound, and she still has a long way to go: "I am still like a child, in the state of just taking the first step, and being included in the list is not a title, but an incentive. Liu Yani said with a smile.
Liu Yani's personality is naturally optimistic, smiling when encountering any difficulties, and always seeking solutions for herself first. "I have always believed that there are always more solutions than difficulties, and that difficulties that can be solved by taking the time and working your own cannot be called difficulties. Although she is busy with her daily work, Liu Yani will not be anxious because she is busy, and she can immediately get up and work after being depressed for a few minutes, "It is impossible to engage in scientific research without encountering setbacks, but pessimism and depression are the most useless, and it cannot solve the problems you encounter." Liu Yani said.
Yani Liu in the lab.
A girl who loves to laugh, but she is in a different state when she works. Whether it is doing scientific research or business work, Liu Yani can calm down and pursue the ultimate in details in a limited time. Once, there was a construction site outside Liu Yani's office, and the noise made her colleagues unbearable, but Liu Yani, who was immersed in work, did not notice. Focusing on her so that she can ignore the surrounding environmental impact and only focus on the present, "I heard my colleague sigh that the movement outside was finally smaller, and I realized that there was a construction sound outside." Liu Yani said.
Speaking of the most impressive things in the work, the "Interim Regulations on the Standardized Construction of Sewage Collection and Treatment in Hunan Chemical Industry Park" drafted and compiled by Liu Yani with the assistance of the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment is a proud thing. The sewage of chemical parks is different from domestic wastewater, and its potential environmental risk is high, so how to control the whole process of collection, treatment and monitoring and comprehensively improve the management level is a difficulty. There is a lack of unification in Hunan Province and even in the whole country.
1. Clear regulations on the standardization and remediation of chemical parks.
This made it difficult for Liu Yani, who had just taken over to draw up the standards. If you want to learn from the practices of other provinces, you can't retrieve the information on **. "Hard-working, domineering" she has repeatedly in-depth field research in the province's chemical parks, written several versions, and repeatedly solicited the opinions of provincial departments such as the department, the provincial development and reform, industry and information technology, the ecological environment departments of cities and states and chemical parks, and finally condensed into a document.
This interim regulation has been officially implemented by the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, which is used to guide the standardized construction of sewage collection and treatment in chemical parks in the province, and reduce the risk of drainage from chemical parks to the water ecological environment in Hunan Province. Nationwide, this is the first official document on the standardized construction of sewage collection and treatment in chemical parks.
Our work must endure loneliness."
When it comes to environmental science majors, many people will think of a smooth sentence - "biochemical ring materials, four sinkholes!" Liu Yani has her own views on this.
I think this argument that 'biochemical ring material' is called a sinkhole profession is a relatively one-sided view. Liu Yani said. The financial returns to these professions may not be as significant in the short term compared to some other fields.
However, the choice of one's own industry should take into account personal interests, passions and social needs," Liu Yani also has her own insistence: "I always firmly believe that in any industry, you will eventually face failure, which is the so-called 'pit';But as long as you can persevere and maximize your potential in the industry and field you are interested in, you will see a different scenery, and the 'pit' will become a treasure trove. ”
Liu Yani also has her own understanding of the work she is currently engaged in. "I would like to thank all those who are on the front line of environmental protection, because our work is extremely important. While the results may not be immediately visible, the contribution to future generations and the ecological environment will be of far-reaching significance. It's an area where you need to endure loneliness, but our efforts will be rewarded in unexpected ways. ”

Talking about her future goals, Liu Yani's thoughts are very realistic: "I hope to be able to use what I have learned as a scientific research worker, and work together with my partners from the Provincial Academy of Environmental Sciences to provide technical support for solving the actual environmental problems in Hunan Province by more scientific means."
