The 2024 Volvo C40 is finally available in Malaysia. It remains priced at RM288,888, but with an increased electric range, which is now rated at 550km (previously 451km) and has a maximum DC charging rate of 200kW (previously 150kW).
The update of Volvo C40 in Malaysia is summarized as follows:
New 19-inch alloy wheels, new Vapour Grey exterior color options, new Pixel LED headlights, new larger 82kWh battery (replaces the old 78kWh battery), longer range up to 550km (previously 451km), faster maximum DC charge rate up to 200kW (previously 150kW), new rear-wheel drive bias AWD power distribution (previously 50:50).
The main improvement of the Volvo C40 in Malaysia is the improvement of its electric performance figures. With the same ** as the previous version, you can now travel up to 550 km on a single charge with a larger 82kwh battery. Since the C40 now supports a maximum DC charging rate of 200kW, your charging experience on long journeys has also been greatly improved.
The faster DC charging rate allows the car to charge from 10% state of charge (SoC) to 80% in just 27 minutes. The maximum AC charging rate of the C40 remains unchanged at 11kW.
The C40's performance figures remain unchanged with a maximum power output of 300kW (408hp metric). While that number remains the same, the power distribution is now skewed towards the rear wheels, as the more powerful rear motor outputs 183kW compared to the smaller front motor at 117kW. Previously, the C40 utilized two motors with 150kW front and rear.
As for the single-motor version of the C40, which is not available in Malaysia, it has now been changed from the previous front-wheel drive (FWD) layout to a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration.
The exterior of the 2024 Volvo C40 has hardly changed, and the easiest way to distinguish it from the old one will be the new 19-inch wheels. They have a new asymmetrical exterior design, which Volvo says has better aerodynamics.
The C40 adds a new color option called Vapour Grey, which is a color you've probably seen on other Volvo models. In addition to this, a major update to the C40's exterior is the new Pixel LED headlights, which utilize sensors to control the headlights, with the ability to adjust the brightness of specific areas, ensuring visibility for the driver while not exposing oncoming traffic to glare.
