Fast Technology reported on February 20 that according to the official WeChat news of "State-owned Assets Xiaoxin", the 1400TEU non-covered container ship independently developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute of China Shipbuilding won the award from the Belgian shipowner CMBtech.

It is reported that the ship will be named "Yara Eyde" in honor of Sam Eyde, the founder of Yara International.

As a new green fuel, ammonia can achieve zero carbon emissions throughout the life cycle at low cost, and is regarded as the most potential alternative fuel in the shipping industry.

As the world's largest nitrogen fertilizer producer and leader, Yara International is also one of the main promoters of ammonia fuel application in the marine field. In 2021, Yara officially established Yara Clean Ammonia to explore new business opportunities in carbon-free fertilizers, industrial ammonia, and more.

The vessel is expected to be delivered in mid-2026 and will be the world's first ammonia-powered container ship. It will run on clean ammonia fuel and operate on the Nordic route between Norway and Germany, making it the first zero-emission maritime route to the European continent.

In addition, the design of the vessel is optimised for the ** corridor between Norway and Europe, which connects Oslo, Breivik, Hamburg and Bremerhaven, and reduces CO2 emissions by 11,000 tonnes per year.
