Interpreting, like a bridge between languages, undertakes the task of accurately translating one language into another, so that people with different languages can communicate without barriers. However, with the rapid development of AI technology, the application of AI in the field of interpretation is becoming more and more widespread, which raises concerns about whether interpretation will be replaced by AI.
It is true that AI has made remarkable achievements in the field of interpretation. Google's neural machine translation system, for example, has made it possible to translate between multiple languages in real time, and the quality of the translations continues to improve. In addition, AI translation tools such as DeepL and Translate are also shining in the field of interpretation.
However, despite the significant progress that AI has made in the field of interpretation, it still cannot completely replace human interpretation. First of all, the translation results of AI translation tools often lack context and cultural context, which can lead to misunderstandings and ambiguities. Second, the translation results of AI often appear to be too full of traces of literal translation, lacking the natural fluency and charm of the language. Finally, human interpreters are able to understand and express some non-verbal information, such as facial expressions, body movements, and tone of voice, which is an advantage that cannot be replicated by AI translation tools.
Therefore, despite the advances made by AI in the field of interpretation, it is still not able to completely replace human interpretation. In the future, human interpreting and AI translation tools are more likely to complement each other's advantages and develop synergistically, jointly promoting the progress of cross-language communication.
