When the fireworks of the New Year have not completely dispersed, the waters of Kinmen unexpectedly ushered in a human tragedy. On February 14, which was supposed to be a day of reunion and festivities, the fate of the four mainland fishermen took a dramatic turn at this moment. The fishing boat they were piloting was maliciously rammed by a vessel of the Taiwan authorities' "Coast Guard" in this seemingly calm sea area, resulting in the destruction of the boat and the loss of life. This vicious incident is not only heart-wrenching, but also exposes serious problems in the handling of the Taiwan authorities.
Kinmen, once a land ravaged by war, has now become a sensitive zone between the Taiwan authorities and the mainland. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, in order to maintain stability, Kinmen was tacitly under the control of the Taiwan authorities. However, with the continuous development and change of the world, the Kinmen sea area has gradually become a game field. In these waters, the Taiwan authorities have restricted the entry of mainland vessels by setting up restricted areas and other means, and have even resorted to violent means to crack down on mainland fishermen. This practice not only seriously infringes upon the legitimate rights and interests of mainland fishermen, but also undermines peace and stability in the waters of Kinmen.
The occurrence of this vicious collision incident is not only shocking, but also arouses people's deep thinking about the way the Taiwan authorities handle it. Why do the Taiwan authorities so brazenly infringe on the rights and interests of mainland fishermen? Why do they try to cover up the truth and shirk responsibility after the accident? The answers to these questions may not be simple, but we can be sure that the Taiwan authorities' handling of the situation has seriously violated the theme of the times of peace and development.
It is important to note that this incident is not an isolated case. Historically, similar vicious incidents have occurred in the waters of Kinmen. In 1990, Taiwan's military police put 76 detained mainland fishermen in the hold of a boat and sealed them with iron nails, causing 25 people to suffocate to death. This tragic incident is still vivid in our minds today, but regrettably, the Taiwan authorities do not seem to have learned a lesson from it. On the contrary, their performance in this vicious collision is even more infuriating and disappointing.
In the face of such a tragedy and the vicious behavior of the Taiwan authorities, we cannot help but ask: Who is responsible for the death of these innocent fishermen? Is it those Taiwan authorities who act recklessly, or those interest groups that do not hesitate to sacrifice the lives of others for their own selfish interests? In any case, we cannot tolerate the continuation of such wanton human rights violations and breaches of peace.
We call on the Taiwan authorities to face history squarely, respect facts, respect human rights, and respect peace. In dealing with the problem, we should uphold the principles of peace, cooperation and win-win results, and resolve differences and problems through dialogue and consultation. At the same time, we also call on the general public to pay attention to this incident and work together to reveal the truth and uphold justice. Only when we work together and speak out together can those who try to cover up the truth and evade responsibility have nowhere to hide!
