The Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences), located on the 1st floor of No. 5 Beichen West Road, Chaoyang District, is a famous nature conservation museum in China. The museum was formerly known as the Beiping Biological Research Institute. The National Museum of Zoology, affiliated to the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a national comprehensive scientific research unit integrating scientific research, specimen collection and science popularization.

The National Museum of Zoology consists of two sections: a herbarium and a specimen showroom. In a separate herbarium, it is divided into 6 sections, 7 floors, and houses 892,000 taxidermy of various animals. The museum is located in the south of the museum, with a construction area of 7,500 square meters, divided into one basement, two and a half floors above ground, three and a half floors, and a total exhibition area of more than 5,500 square meters. There are 9 fixed exhibition halls, 1 mobile exhibition hall and 1 4D dynamic movie screening hall in the museum. Themes include animal diversity and evolution, invertebrates, the history of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, endangered animals, birds, people and animals, insects, butterflies, and fine arts.

The "Animal Diversity and Evolution Exhibition Hall" displays the diversity of species, introduces the characteristics, nomenclature and classification system of existing species, expounds the origin of species, and reviews the understanding and evolution of human beings on the origin of species. The invertebrate exhibit displays representative groups of corals, shells, earthworms, spiders, etc., allowing visitors to have a deeper understanding of invertebrates. The History of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences records the evolution of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from an epoch-making and world-class zoological research institution. The Endangered Animals Pavilion exhibits rare species unique to China, ranging from famous animals to some unknown rare species. The ornithrium mainly introduces the distribution of endemic birds, rare birds and birds in China, as well as the adaptability of birds. The "Man and Beast" section highlights the right of people and animals to share the earth's resources through the display of rare species unique to China. The insectarium exhibits the largest variety of insects in the world. The Butterfly Pavilion exhibits different species of butterflies from different countries. The museum has a large collection of precious cultural relics, many of which are important in the history of zoological research and development.

In addition, on the east side of the basement floor of the taxidermy display area, there is a 4-day screening hall with 48 seats. The cinema screened a 21-minute, 35-person audience "Sabertooth Dynasty", with a ticket of 20 yuan.

The National Museum of Zoology is closed on Mondays from 9am to 5pm daily from 1 May to 31 August and from 9am to 4:30pm during the off-season (1 September to 30 April). Tickets are 40 yuan per person.
