It is reported that in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century, there was a welfare factory near the hospital's station, and some blind people were recruited to work in the factory. Later, they made their home near the factory.
One day in the early summer of 1980. After the rain, the roads in the blind community of the village were slippery. Uncle Jiang, a blind man, accidentally fell to the ground and spilled a bag of rice he bought into the sewage.
This scene happened to be seen by Xu Yuxing, a student of the academy, and he hurriedly ran forward to help. "Uncle, it's not easy for you, let me be your 'crutch' in the future! ”
After the incident, the team had the idea of helping the blind elderly group and gained an in-depth understanding of the relevant situations and difficulties. Subsequently, the team was formed by the "Learning from Lei Feng Group". A 44-year journey of helping the disabled began.
They carried out the activities of "helping the disabled eight to the home" such as buying rice and coal to send to their homes, cleaning and sanitation to their homes, and performing theatrical programs at home, forming a mechanism for helping the disabled based on life assistance, humanistic assistance for the disabled, and knowledge for the disabled, and providing warm-hearted services for these blind people.
Grandma Li on the sixth floor suffers from stomach problems and high blood pressure and needs to buy medicine regularly. In November 2020, the battalion of the "Lei Feng Echelon" was commended by the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Party Committee as an "Advanced Unit for Supporting the Government and Loving the People".
Later, more and more officers and soldiers joined the ranks. They strengthened the contact with the local civil affairs department, the neighborhood and the community, and extended the scope of activities to help the disabled to nursing homes, autistic children, special education schools, etc., which was unanimously praised by the local people.
