Is there any interest behind the single-word names of the characters in the Three Kingdoms period? Why is there only one word in the name?
Not long ago, a pair of post-90s parents named their children"General Zhang", the name is harsh.
Think about it, the name will accompany us for a lifetime, whether it is going to school or taking exams, participating in work, lying on the blackboard, the name must be used, the name is good, the child will be in trouble when he walks to **, and if the name is not good, he will be ridiculed when he goes.
The couple from the 90s of the last century gave the child this name, and they were clearly happy about their son's success, but it was also said that if the child was really Manxian, it would be fine, but wouldn't it be a problem for him if he couldn't be Manx?
As for whether it will cause trouble, of course, it can be left to time to test, but what kind of experience this name can bring to children, only Mr. Zhang himself can deeply understand.
The Civil Code regulates the names of citizens:
Natural persons have the right to a name and the right to choose, use, change or authorize another person to use their name in accordance with the law, provided that it is not contrary to public policy and morality.
At the same time, parents often have too much flexibility when naming their children because of this rule, in order to let their children be dragged around by the nose, parents also damage the child's brain, so there are many alternative four-character names, such as Shengwang, Buyuan Shangshu, Wantu Sirui and so on.
When it comes to the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, we will find a very unusual phenomenon. In the three hundred years from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms, heroes such as Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Quan appeared, and almost all of them became famous.
Even compound surnames, such as Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi, Xiahoudun, etc., are basically one-word names, and if I rack my brains, I can only think of one exception, and that is Pang Degong.
So, why is there a very strange phenomenon that people in the Eastern Han Dynasty don't like two-character names?
Of course not, the reason is puzzling, because at the time, the double name of the two letters meant punishment, but what is going on now?
It all started with Wang Mang.
Wandering. The Han Dynasty lasted for more than 400 years and was once considered a long-lived dynasty, but it was actually divided into Western and Eastern Han. The Western Han Dynasty began with Liu Bang's establishment of the Han Dynasty in 202 AD and ended with the deposition of the last emperor Wang Mang in 8 AD, and the Western Han Dynasty began with Liu Xiu's proclamation as emperor in 25 AD and ended with Cao Pi's usurpation of the Han Dynasty in 220 AD.
Between the Western Han and Eastern Han dynasties, there was also a new dynasty founded by Wang Mang, but it was ignored by later generations because it did not exist for a long time, just like the Zhou dynasty when the Tang Dynasty was usurped by Wu Zetian.
Despite its short existence, it remained an independent dynasty, and its founder, Wang Mang, was recognized as emperor in the canonical history.
This Wang Mang was a very thoughtful emperor, he was full of imagination and was known as the emperor who traveled through time and space.
The reason why Wang Mang was able to usurp the Han Dynasty was because of his special status, he was the nephew of Wang Zhengjun, the empress of Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty, and the second son of Wang Mang, the newly established king favored by Emperor Yuan of Han.
After Wang Zhengjun took control of the government, he made good use of this nephew, allowing Wang Mang to gradually take power, and finally deposed the emperor of the Han Dynasty and established a new dynasty.
In fact, a very special place in the Western Han Dynasty is that there are many relatives, who not only appeared in the late Western Han Dynasty, but also began to appear after the death of Liu Bang led by Empress Lu, so that the palace ladies of later generations always wanted to take Empress Lu as an example to lead the government.
Of course, it is this characteristic that gives Wang Mango the opportunity that history is intertwined, and sometimes what happened hundreds of years ago can affect the course of events hundreds of years later.
This is certainly interesting for history, but it makes no sense to say that Wang Mang was a traveler, and it only shows that his reform ideas were far ahead of his time.
Qing Dynasty Wang Mang reforms (45 BC - 23 AD).
After Wang Mang became emperor, he thought that the management system implemented by the Han Dynasty at that time did not match the name of the new dynasty, so he decided to implement the historical name"Wang Mang's reforms"of reforms.
The biggest feature of Wang Mang's restoration is that it surpassed that time"Natives"cognition, with a strong modern atmosphere, hence the name"Traveler"。
For example, in terms of the land system, which nationalizes land and then distributes it to farmers for cultivation, and private individuals are not allowed to buy or sell, which is not fundamentally different from the current land system.
For example, he reformed the numismatic system and the civil bureaucratic system, and at the same time stipulated that the salt and iron should be managed by **, the mountains and rivers should be nationalized, and at the same time the people would enjoy themselves and ensure the peace and security of the country and the people, which was a very modern measure.
Wang Mang also invented many more"Modern"instruments, especially vernier scales.
Vernier caliper is a measuring tool, and the vernier caliper with the most modern measurement value is generally considered to have been invented by the Frenchman Yonel Bill, but when it comes to appearance and working principle, Wang Mang's vernier caliper is almost no different from the one used now, but it was invented more than 1000 years earlier than the French.
In addition, Wang Mang also paid special attention to the reform of the system"First name", not only changed the official name, but also changed the name of the place, and later changed the name of the person.
Change the name. After Wang Mang came to power, he developed a keen interest in names, especially his own surname"Wang", he found this surname the most attractive, so he put it"Wang"Surnames were given to some people who he thought were worthy of giving them.
In addition, he used his own name as a standard, passed"Go to the second place"The way to rearrange the names of people in the world, that is, to change the double name of two characters to a single name of one word.
Something similar happened during this period:
Wang Mang's eldest grandson, Wang Zong, was ambitious, and traditionally said he had to wait quietly for an opportunity to consolidate the throne.
But he was so enthusiastic that he conspired with his uncle to seize Wang Mang's country. Later, after this incident, Wang Mang was very angry and punished Wang Zong, even making him commit suicide:
The original clan name"Huizong"It has now reverted to"Huizong", and two surnames were introduced.
From this sentence, we can see that Wang Mang must change his name to the eldest grandson according to the holy decree, because when he changes his name to Wang Sun, of course, ordinary people will also change their name.
However, when Wang Zong broke the law, he was deprived of a one-character name and took a two-character name.
So Wang Mang reformed, changed the names of all the people in the world into a unified name of one word, and became the representative of the good people among the people, and finally those whose names had two words became the object of punishment.
Since the court has rules, people are naturally reluctant to object, even if no parents are willing to put on their newborn children"Bad citizens"They will also respond to Wang Mang's reforms by giving themselves a one-word name.
Although the new Wang Mang Dynasty was only short-lived, the reform of its name affected the social atmosphere of the time, and also influenced the later Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms, and became a recognized way of naming.
This is why the characters of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period have only one word and one name.
Nowadays, one-, two-, or even three-word names are becoming more and more common, and they are also a sign of our freedom in the new era. After all, it would be too strict to even stipulate the length of the name.
