Recently, according to Jiupai News, at the second session of the 14th National People's Congress to be held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 5, Zhang Qiongli, a political teacher at Enshi High School in Hubei Province and a representative of the National People's Congress, will focus on the field of general high school education and put forward an improvement proposal for the academic level qualification examination system.

The current high school academic proficiency examination involves 13 subjects, which are the threshold that high school graduates must pass, and 6 of them overlap with the subjects of the college entrance examination. Deputy Zhang Qiongli pointed out that this kind of double assessment has brought heavy pressure to schools, teachers, and students. On the one hand, organizing such large-scale examinations in accordance with the college entrance examination standards not only consumes huge human, material and financial resources, but also involves the linkage and cooperation of multiple departments such as electric power, public security, fire protection, transportation, medical care, food safety, and health supervision. On the other hand, because the exams are scattered at different times in the spring semester, the teaching and invigilation burden of teachers is exacerbated, and at the same time, students are trapped in the dilemma of frequent test-taking, although the difficulty of the exams is relatively low, but the actual utility and attention are limited.

To this end, Deputy Zhang Qiongli proposed to optimize and adjust the current general high school academic level qualification examination, especially to cancel the qualification examination that has been included in the college entrance examination subjects, taking Hubei Province as an example, this move is expected to reduce about one-third of each student's examination expenses, effectively reduce the financial pressure on families, and create more independent study and rest time for students, and at the same time help to ease the work intensity of teachers.

In addition, she advocated a reform of the way in which the qualifications of the subjects selected for the college entrance examination were evaluated and shifted to a credit system, which allows students to pass as long as they have completed the corresponding courses, reached the required number of credit hours and completed the credits. This plan does not require additional financial investment, is less difficult to implement, and meets the needs of parents at the current high school level to reduce their children's excessive academic pressure.

Looking back on the past year, Zhang Qiongli's proposal at the National People's Congress and the National People's Congress on speeding up the promotion of "sleeping on the stomach to sleeping on the back" in primary and secondary schools to improve the quality of students' lunch break has received positive responses from relevant departments, and substantial progress has been made in Enshi Prefecture. For example, Jingui Primary School has completed the pilot renovation of the whole school from "sleeping on the stomach to sleeping on the back", and has equipped 1,350 sets of reclining chairs. This year, this initiative is planned to be further expanded to three schools, including Enshi Experimental Primary School, Selenium Capital Ethnic Experimental Primary School and Shizhou Ethnic Experimental Primary School, to carry out pilot projects, and call on all sectors of society to provide financial support to ensure the effective implementation and popularization of the project.
