What does Bodhi mean?

"Bodhi" is an important word in Buddhism, which is the Sanskrit word "bodhi.""The transliteration of , which means "Jue".

Buddhism believes that sentient beings are hindered by ignorance, regard falsehood as truth, and cannot see the true life and death, so they are trapped in samsara and cannot be liberated. To break through ignorance and see the truth, this process from confusion to understanding is "bodhi."", that is, "Jue".

Developing bodhicitta is one of the fundamental differences between Mahayana Buddhism, Hinayana Buddhism, and human-heaven multiplication.

What is human-day multiplication? A person who believes in the concept of life and in reincarnation, but who cannot afford renunciation or bodhicitta in this world that sentient beings mistakenly think is real, can practice the multiplication of human beings and do good deeds in order to obtain better results in reincarnation.

The three worlds here mean past, present, and future, and the cycle is endless.

What is Hinayana Method? A person who believes in the concept of life in the three worlds, believes in reincarnation, and can generate renunciation, but cannot generate bodhichitta, can practice Hinayana and pursue the silence of self-nirvana.

But only those who have initiated bodhichitta can practice Mahayana Buddhism. Therefore, Mahayana Buddhism is also called the Bodhi Path, and Hinayana Buddhism is called the Liberation Path.

So what exactly is bodhichitta and this "enlightened" mind?

In the Diamond Sutra, Subo asked the Buddha: "World-honored one, good man and good woman, develop the three bodhichitta, where should the clouds dwell, how can the clouds practice, and how can the clouds subdue their minds?" ”

Here, "the three bodhichitta" means "supreme enlightenment," and the "three bodhichitta" is referred to as bodhichitta.

The Buddha replied to Subodhi, "All the Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas should subdue their minds in this way!" All sentient beings and the like: oviparous, viviparous, wet, incarnated; If it is colored, if it is colorless; If there is thought, if there is no thought, if there is no thought, if there is no thought, if there is no thought, I will let it enter the nirvana and extinguish it. If it is the destruction of immeasurable and countless boundless sentient beings, there are no sentient beings who have attained the extinction. ”

So bodhichitta consists of two aspects: worldly true bodhichitta and supreme true bodhichitta (bodhichitta).

A person who practices Mahayana Buddhism, driven by compassion, to help all sentient beings and achieve liberation is the worldly truth of bodhichitta (bodhichitta).

At the same time, a person who practices Mahayana Buddhism, when helping and liberating sentient beings, should also contemplate that "there are no sentient beings who have attained extinction"—not a single sentient being has been extinguished, and even if they have been saved, they should not be saved, and this is the ultimate truth of bodhichitta.

Because according to Buddhism, "everything is like a dream bubble", then the ultimate truth of bodhichitta is to live on the three-wheeled body and void. What is a three-wheeled body empty? The bodhisattva who saves sentient beings is empty, the sentient beings who are saved by the bodhisattva are empty, and the bodhisattva saves sentient beings is still empty.

So, to put it simply, "bodhichitta" is the mind that wishes to save all sentient beings.
