According to TechInsights, if enterprise IoT and connected cars are excluded, smart homes have risen from 17% of the global share of IP-connected devices in 2018 to 32% in 2023 and are expected to reach 46% by 2028.
According to the data, the smart home segment contains many different device types and configurations, such as gateways, control hubs, thermostats, cameras, sensors, motion detectors, locks, lighting controls, plugs, and more. TechInsights predicts that in the future, smart home capabilities will continue to expand to hundreds of millions of homes around the world that are not yet using smart home products.
The report shows that the growth in smart home market share has come at the expense of smartphones and mobile PCs and tablets, with the percentages of both products declining significantly. While smartphones are still expected to grow by 2 between 2023 and 20283%, but the mobile PC and tablet category looks almost stagnant, with a projected CAGR of just 03%。
