The Polish star needs to reach the last eight at Indiana Wales to fully secure a spot at the top of the table during the Sunshine Doubles. But if Sabalenka is out early, Swiatek could secure the top spot ahead of the last eight.

Sabalenka is second with 8,725 points but needs to keep on with last year's runner-up finish. As a result, she may need to win a title to get closer to world No. 1.

Gauff is third with 6,975 points, while defending champion Rybakina is fourth.

Pegula returned to action in San Diego due to injury and reaching the semi-finals did not help her catch up with the players in front of her.

Abdul-Jabbar remains in sixth place but faces a big challenge ahead, especially after a knee injury recently.

Vondrousova, Zheng Qinwen, Sakkari and Ostapenko rounded out the bottom 10.

San Diego's semi-finalist Navarro moved up to a career-high No. 23. 、

San Diego winner Usain Bolt climbed 22 places to finish in the top 30 for the first time (27th). Yastremska and Kostyuk finished 31st and 32nd respectively.

In the Chinese derby in Austin, Yuan Yue defeated Wang Xiyu to win her first WTA title. She is currently China's No. 3 women's singles player and has risen to a career-high No. 49.
