The Eastern Theater is one of the five major theaters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, under the jurisdiction of six provinces and cities of Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Anhui, and the theater is stationed in Nanjing.
The predecessor of the Eastern Theater was the Nanjing Military Region, which was established in 1955 and is one of the five major theaters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The Nanjing Military Region has participated in many major battles, such as resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, self-defense and counterattacks, and operations against Taiwan, and has made important contributions to safeguarding state sovereignty and territorial integrity. On February 1, 2016, the Chinese People's Liberation Army carried out a historic military reform, adjusting the original seven military regions into five major theaters, and the Nanjing Military Region into the Eastern Theater. The Eastern Theater Command is located in Nanjing City, and leads and commands the armed forces of six provincial-level administrative regions in East China, including Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Fujian, in addition to Shandong Province.
The Southern Theater includes Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, and Macao of the former Guangzhou Military Region, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces of the former Chengdu Military Region, and the South China Sea Fleet, Air Force, and Rocket Force under their jurisdiction.
The army organs of the Southern Theater are stationed in Nanning, and there are three group armies under its jurisdiction, namely the 41st and 42nd Group Armies of the former Guangzhou Military Region and the 14th Group Army of the former Chengdu Military Region. The South China Sea Fleet in the Southern Theater is one of the three major fleets of the Chinese Navy, with the latest warships, including four Type 052D destroyers, three Type 071 dock landing ships, and four Type 094 strategic missile submarines. The Southern Theater plays a key role in countering security threats in its strategic direction, maintaining peace, containing wars, and winning wars.
The Central Theater of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was officially established on February 1, 2016, and the establishment of the Central Theater is one of the five major theaters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
The Western Theater of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is one of China's five major theaters and was officially established on February 1, 2016.
The Western Theater has jurisdiction over the leadership and command of the armed forces of seven provinces and municipalities, including Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, and Chongqing.
The historical evolution of the Western Theater can be traced back to the original Chengdu Military Region and the Lanzhou Military Region, which merged to form the current Western Theater; except for the two provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou, which were excluded, the armed forces of Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Chongqing were all under the leadership and command of the Western Theater.
The Northern Theater of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was formally established on February 1, 2016, and its establishment is one of the important measures for the reform of the squadron. The Northern Theater was established to better adapt to changes in the environment and improve the combat effectiveness of the army.
The main responsibility of the Northern Theater is to be responsible for leading and commanding the armed forces of five provinces, including Liaoning, Shandong, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia.
