Antarctica, a mysterious continent of ice and snow, has always attracted the attention of countless scientists. Recently, the Turkish National Antarctic Expedition team completed its 8th expedition and brought back a wealth of scientific research results.

The expedition consisted of 24 scientists from Turkey, the United States, Spain and other countries who conducted scientific research in Antarctica for 36 days. The study projects covered a variety of fields such as environmental pollution, marine science, battery technology, atmospheric and space monitoring, etc.

Of particular concern is the continued decline in Antarctic sea ice extent. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), Antarctic sea ice extent decreased to 1.99 million square kilometers in February 2024, the third consecutive year below 2 million square kilometers. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of scientists around the world, as the reduction of Antarctic sea ice will not only affect the global climate, but may also have a significant impact on marine ecosystems.

Here, we would like to pay tribute to the scientists of the Turkish National Antarctic Expedition. In an extremely harsh environment, they continue to explore and innovate for the sake of human science. At the same time, we also call on all countries around the world to strengthen cooperation and jointly address global environmental issues such as the loss of Antarctic sea ice.
