Although the Qing emperors favored certain concubines in their later years, such as the concubines of the late Yongzheng Dynasty and the concubines of the late Qianlong period, the Jiaqing Dynasty was no exception, such as the favored Imperial Concubine Gongshun.

This is a famous woman in history, her name is not recorded, but her nickname is "Gongshun". She is a descendant of the Hongyi Mansion of the Yellow Banner Niu Hulu Clan, a wealthy family of the Eight Banners of Manchuria, and the sixth ancestor was a heroic and warlike Turg in the early years of the Qing Dynasty.

Turg was the son-in-law of Nurhachi's daughter and the brother-in-law of Huang Taiji. He was valued by Huang Taiji and ranked as the eighth minister, but he was later punished by Huang Taiji and removed from his post because of the incident of his daughter falsely reporting his heirs.

However, after his son Copso succeeded to the throne by Emperor Shunzhi, he was named the Duke of Guoyi for his merits. Imperial Concubine Gongshun came from this family, and her family background is illustrious and has a deep historical background.

During Copso's lifetime, his family's title was stripped and replaced by the sixteenth son of Eyidu, Sulpilon. As a result, the Suppilon lineage replaced Turg and became the new major sect of the Hongyi Mansion.

Copso was the fifth ancestor of the Imperial Concubine, and although his family was not as prominent as Suppilon, it was still much more arrogant than the average family. Gongshun Imperial Concubine's father Shanqing became the chief in the second year of Jiaqing, and died in the second year, and he didn't see his daughter enter the palace, so the time of Gongshun's entry into the palace is not very certain.

After Gongshun was elected to the palace, she quickly won the favor of Emperor Jiaqing, she was born in a famous family, and there was a sister of the same clan in the harem to take care of her, so she would not suffer. Gongshun's sister of the same clan was the then Empress of the Middle Palace, Niu Hulu, she was the Empress of Xiaohe Rui, and she was also from the Hongyi Mansion.

In the ninth year of Jiaqing, Emperor Jiaqing decreed the promotion of the pregnant Gongshun as a concubine, and in the second year, Gongshun gave birth to the eighth daughter of the emperor in Chuxiu Palace, and her sister gave birth to the fourth son of the emperor, Mianxin, who was very favored by the sisters at that time.

Although Gongshun unfortunately lost the eighth daughter of the emperor, she was not discouraged, but became pregnant with a dragon fetus again, and was named a concubine. In the second year of the following, Gongshun gave birth to the ninth daughter of the emperor, that is, the lord of Hui and Gu, which is undoubtedly good news.

However, this is not all of the obedience, three years later, she gave birth to another son for Emperor Jiaqing, which is the youngest son of Emperor Jiaqing, that is, the fifth son of the emperor, Mianyu. At that time, Emperor Jiaqing was 55 years old, and he was undoubtedly very happy to be able to add another dragon son.

It is said that Emperor Jiaqing died suddenly, but he could not find the secret decree of the prince, which may indicate that he already had the idea of Yi Chu, and the prince of Yi Chu was this youngest son Mianyu.

After Emperor Daoguang succeeded to the throne, he was honored as the imperial concubine because of his obedience to the birth of Renzong's youngest son (Mianyu). Under normal circumstances, when the new emperor succeeds to the throne, he will honor the widow of the former emperor who gave birth to a prince and a princess, but Gongshun was honored twice by Emperor Daoguang.

The first time was when Daoguang had just succeeded to the throne, and the second time was in the twenty-sixth year of Daoguang, when he was honored as the imperial concubine. Some people may ask, why did Emperor Daoguang honor Gongshun twice?

According to the records of the twenty-seventh year of Daoguang, at that time, the imperial concubine had not yet recovered. This shows that Gongshun had been ill before, so it is very likely that Gongshun was critically ill in the twenty-sixth year of Daoguang, in order to be happy, Emperor Daoguang was honored, but I didn't expect this Chongxi to be effective, Gongshun survived this crisis, and gradually recovered his health.

After Emperor Xianfeng succeeded to the throne, Gongshun was once again honored as the imperial ancestor such as the imperial concubine, and experienced the four dynasties of Qianlong, Jiaqing, Daoguang and Xianfeng, and was promoted all the way from the title of imperial concubine.

She died in the palace at the age of 74 in the third month of the 10th year of Xianfeng, and lived as long as her sisters Xiao and Empress Rui. This is based on the "Qing Historical Manuscript", "Jiaqing Dynasty Record", "Daoguang Dynasty Record", "Eight Banners Manchurian Clan General Genealogy" and other records.
