At present, residue hydrogenation technology is a means of heavy oil lightening that is widely used at home and abroad, and the boiling bed residue hydrogenation technology has the advantages of small bed pressure drop, uniform temperature distribution, high mass and heat transfer efficiency, long operation cycle and flexible operation of the device due to the fact that the catalyst is in a state of full backmixing in the reactor and can be replaced. In recent years, the hydrogenation technology of boiling bed residue has received extensive attention.

Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute (FRIPP) first carried out the research and development of ebullator hydrogenation technology in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century, studied different types of catalysts and reactor forms, and finally determined the technical route of the ebullated bed reactor using microsphere catalyst and three-phase separator: entering the 21st century, in 2004, FRIPP began to set up a research team to continue the research and development of the ebullated bed project, and developed a microspherical catalyst dedicated to strong ebullating bed technology, And successfully carried out the amplification test in the catalyst Fushun branch: a set of hot mold pilot plant with a processing capacity of 4L h was designed and built by itself, and many long-term tests were carried out, the operation process was stable, there was no coking phenomenon, and the catalyst output was controlled within the index. The pilot test adopts the self-developed micro-spherical demetalization and desulfurization conversion catalyst, with a demetalization rate of 62% 95%, a desulfurization rate of 68%, a 90% conversion rate of 40% and 85%, reaching the level of similar foreign technologies, and providing a complete set of design data for the preparation of the process package of the 10,000-ton boiling bed industrial demonstration device, and a large number of tests have been carried out on the cold mold experimental device of different scales, and finally completed the study of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the reactor, the design of internal components such as gas-liquid distributor and three-phase separator. In April 2019, we began to cooperate with East China University of Science and Technology to establish a fluid mechanics model of an ebullated bed reactor to provide relevant amplification basis for the scale-up of the ebullated bed reactor. At the same time, the catalyst addition and discharge system was built in the laboratory, the design of the addition and discharge agent tank was improved, and the process and operating parameters of the catalyst addition and discharge process were determined. After more than 10 years of technical research, a complete set of STRONG boiling bed residue hydrogenation technology with independent intellectual property rights has been formed.

With the strong support of Sinopec headquarters, the research team composed of Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute (FRIPP), Sinopec Jinling Branch (JPEC), Sinopec Luoyang Engineering and East China University of Science and Technology has completed the development of a complete set of STRONG ebullated bed residue hydrogenation technology and the test of 50,000A ebullated bed industrial demonstration device, and has made major breakthroughs in catalysts, processes and engineering technologies. And formed a series of patents and proprietary technologies, formed a boiling bed residue hydrogenation technology with completely independent intellectual property rights. At present, the preparation of the process package of 2 million VA ebullated bed residue hydrogenation unit has been completed, and the industrialization process is being actively promoted. The successful development of the 50,000 VASTRONG ebullating bed industrial demonstration device test has verified the feasibility, reliability and advancement of the STRONG ebullating bed complete set of technology, indicating that the STRONG ebullating bed technology has a foundation for industrial promotion and application. According to the actual situation of each refinery, we can provide "tailor-made" residue deep processing technology solutions, which will help to enhance the competitiveness and economic benefits of oil refining enterprises. For example, the boiling bed is combined with the fixed bed, and the boiling bed is used as the pre-protection reactor of the fixed bed residue hydrogenation unit to provide the raw material adaptability of the residue hydrogenation unit or extend the operation cycle; The combination of boiling bed with catalytic cracking or coking or solvent deasphalting processes for maximum clean utilization of residual oil.
