On February 5, 2024, the United States submitted Notification G TBT N USA 2097 to the WTO, proposing to amend the Energy Labelling Rules to establish energy labels and change existing labeling requirements for several new categories of consumer products. Deadline for comments: April 2, 2024.
The main contents of this revision are:
1) Inclusion of new consumer product categories such as air purifiers, clothes dryers, refrigeration products (including wine coolers, combination coolers and other non-standard refrigeration equipment) and portable electric spa pools in the coverage of the Energy Labelling Rules. These product labels are required to show annual energy consumption and operating costs, as well as comparisons to other models.
2) Modify the energy labels of existing laundry washers, televisions, and several heating products (including fireplaces, stovetops, ovens, and other gas appliances) to reflect the latest energy efficiency data and standards, showing more accurately the energy consumption and savings potential of these products.
3) Modify the current display model labeling requirements to simplify the way labels are attached, and improve the visibility and consistency of labels. These requirements will allow manufacturers and retailers to use more flexible methods to display labels, such as using *** or **, while guaranteeing that consumers can see the labels before they buy.
4) Make some minor revisions to improve the clarity and accuracy of the rules. This includes updating electricity cost numbers on labels, removing outdated tester information, and adjusting labels' size, color, font, and position.
The first is to take the initiative to pay attention to the revision of the energy labeling rules, and label them in accordance with the prescribed energy efficiency standards, rules and styles;
The second is to strengthen the testing of products to ensure the authenticity, accuracy and completeness of product energy efficiency labels, and avoid the risk of being punished;
The third is to actively promote the progress of energy-saving technology and improve the energy efficiency and market competitiveness of products.
