How long is the history of Japan?

The history of Japan dates back to the Paleolithic period, and the Japanese archipelago was already inhabited by humans about 30,000 years ago. The history of Japan can be broadly divided into the following periods:

Paleolithic: Japan was originally connected to the mainland, and around the end of the Alluvial to the beginning of the Shock Epoch, the Sea of Japan appeared as a result of sea migration from various parts of Japan. About 10,000 years ago, it became the Japanese archipelago today.

Jomon period: About 12,000 years ago, the end of the last glacial age began to warm up dramatically, and people's culture and life changed dramatically. Around the beginning of the Oki Era (10,000 to 8,000 years ago), the entire island entered the Jomon period.

Yayoi period: From 300 B.C. to 250 A.D., rice cultivation was introduced to Japan from the Korean Peninsula, giving rise to an agricultural culture based on rice cultivation.

Kofun period: The second half of the 3rd century, the beginning of the 4th century, the first half of the 7th century, and the beginning of the 8th century, the era of the division of the wealthy clans with Yamato as the center. Many tombs were built all over Japan, and the ancient Yamato kingship began.

Asuka eraFrom the end of the 6th century to 710, various powerful people, led by Prince Shotoku, made great efforts to create a Ritsuryo state.

Nara period: 710 - 794 was the era when the capital was set up in Heijokyo.

Heian period: 794 - 1184, the Heian period refers to the period of about 390 years, from the relocation of the capital of Emperor Kanmu to the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate2.

Kamakura period: 1192 - After the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate in 1334, Japan entered the Kamakura period, which lasted for 142 years2.
