What few people know is that the person who reported the news on October 16, 1948 was actually Ouyang Wu, deputy commander of the 52nd Division of the 60th Army. At 10:22 that night, Zheng Dongguo, the commander of the First Corps, who was lying in bed smoking a cigarette, suddenly received a thrilling **. Hey, is it the commander? * Ouyang Wu's hurried voice came from the other end, "The Sixtieth Army has decided to revolt, and it will act tonight!" ”

Hearing this important news, Zheng Dongguo was shocked. I didn't have time to ask in detail, Ouyang Wu had already hung up**. What's going on here? It turned out that Ouyang Wu had participated in the Qinghong Gang and the Three Youth League in his early years, and had made military exploits during the encirclement and suppression of the Red Army, so he felt that he could not escape the responsibility, so he reported this heavy news before the uprising of the 60th Army, and wanted to find another way.

Ouyang Wu's ventilated message caught Zheng Dongguo off guard. He had already formulated a plan to break out, ordering the 60th Army to break through along the Jichang Highway and the New Seventh Army to feint Datun. If the 60th Army really revolts, then half of the Changchun defense area will fall into the hands of the PLA, and the consequences will be unimaginable. Zheng Dongguo decided to observe the situation first, so he asked Deputy Chief of Staff Yang Youmei to know the movements of the 60th Army.

However, in the middle of the night, Shi Shuo, deputy commander of the New Seventh Army, and Long Guojun, chief of staff, hurried over to report to Zheng Dongguo that an incident had occurred. After a search, it was found that the gunfire came from the defenders surrounded by the Sixty Corps. After contacting the 60th Army, the switchboard said that the traffic had been interrupted. Zheng Dongguo was convinced at this time that the 60th Army had revolted.

Zheng Dongguo was determined to fight Zeng Zesheng to the death, and ordered the burning of important archives to prepare for a breakthrough. At the same time, he also tried to persuade Zeng Zesheng through **, but it all ended in failure. The next day, Zheng Dongguo sent Yang Youmei and others to persuade Zeng Zesheng to "think about the long term" in person, but Zeng Zesheng was very dissatisfied with this, believing that their move was completely righteous and would not change their minds.

Zeng Zesheng decisively rejected Zheng Dongguo's persuasion to surrender, because he clearly saw the trend of the times. As early as 1946, he told his subordinates: "At present, the Kuomintang reactionaries are in chaos, and we must stand on the side of the people." He was keenly aware that instead of starving to death in Changchun, it was better to join the Eighth Route Army in order to protect himself and benefit the people.

At the end of September 1948, ** ordered Liu Jingfan, the liaison officer of the Northeast Bureau, to contact Zeng Zesheng, hoping that he would revolt when the fighter was mature and cooperate with the Northeast Field Army to capture Changchun. Liu Jingfan contacted Zeng Zesheng through Zhang Mao, the commander of Zeng Zesheng's guard battalion. The two sides soon reached a consensus that the Communists would guarantee the safety of the officers and men of the insurrectionary forces and provide them with appropriate resettlement.

On 6 October, Zeng Zesheng convened a military conference and clearly stated that "in order to fight for the army's survival, the only way out is to cooperate with the Northeast Field Army." After the meeting, he found Ouyang Wu alone and asked him to report to Zheng Dongguo, causing chaos in Zheng Dongguo to cover the deployment of the uprising. Sure enough, Ouyang Wu's ventilated report made Zheng Dongguo at a loss and had no time to take action.

On the evening of October 15, Zeng Zesheng announced to the whole army the order to revolt in the early morning of the next day. At 2 o'clock in the morning of the 16th, he led two divisions with a total of 150,000 people revolted with electricity. Subsequently, he sent people to stop the withdrawal of the New Seventh Army and occupied Changchun. On the morning of the 17th, ** personally came to the command post of the 60th Army to warmly celebrate Zeng Zesheng's uprising and the imminent liberation of Changchun.

After Zeng Zesheng's uprising, Zheng Dongguo also wanted to make a desperate bet and ordered the New Seventh Army to break through. On the evening of 19 October, only more than 100 members of the New Seventh Army escaped from Changchun under the blows of the People's Liberation Army. At this point, the Changchun Uprising was completely victorious. Zeng Zesheng was far-sighted and had the people in mind, and finally chose to stand on the right side of history and made major contributions to the liberation of Changchun and Northeast China.
