Allah Group invested10,000 euros investedConstructionGreen electric heat pump equipment, accelerateAchieve carbon reductionGoals
Arla Foods Ingredients has recently embarked on a major carbon reduction initiative: the Group will invest up to 32 million euros in the construction of a state-of-the-art electric heat pump facility at its protein processing site in Denmark, making it the largest investment to date in the Group's efforts to advance net zero.
The electric heat pump facility is expected to be fully operational by 2025, when it will be able to convert 28 megawatts of electricity is converted into 8 megawatts of heat, which greatly improves the efficiency of energy use. It is estimated that this measure will help the site reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 14,500 tons per year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 22% compared to 2015.
This investment will significantly support Arla Foods Ingredients Group to achieve its ambitious goal of reducing CO2 emissions from its production processes by 63% by 2030. This, combined with plans to achieve 100% renewable electricity at all its European sites by the end of 2025, is a key step towards the Group's net-zero emissions target. In addition, Arla Foods Ingredients aims to further its net-zero efforts by fully adopting renewable electricity across all European sites.
This investment is the culmination of years of research and effort by Arla Foods Ingredients in the application of electrification technologies. Drawing on the experience gained from small-scale heat pump projects, the Group designed a fully integrated system capable of extracting the energy from the cooling water. The heat generated by this system is fed into the plant's 90°C heat distribution network, which is used to support processes such as spray drying to produce ingredients such as whey powder.
Paul Van Rooij, Vice President of ** Chain at Arla Foods Ingredients, said: "As the demand for our products continues to grow globally, sustainability is critical. Efficient electrification and the shift to renewable energy are at the heart of our strategies to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. This innovative heat pump technology allows us to optimize the energy system to provide more sustainable heat for low-temperature applications, while developing better solutions for our high-temperature needs. This marks another important milestone in our journey to reduce carbon emissions"。
The electric heat pump project at Ala's protein plant in Denmark provides a valuable model for the implementation of similar projects at other sites within the group.
