During the Northern Song Dynasty, a teenage child suffering from a leg ailment who had lost both parents lived a difficult life in the village. He had no one to rely on, relying on handouts and begging from his neighbors to make ends meet. There is a wide river in front of the village, and every time the river is wet, the villagers and passers-by have to wade through it, and it is even more difficult for the elderly. This problem has plagued the villagers for years, but no one has come up with a solution, only the child who picks up stones day after day and silently piles them up by the river.
Curiously asked why he did this, the child replied that a stone bridge would be built to make it easier for everyone to pass. People just laughed and didn't take it seriously. However, as time passed, the pile of stones gradually turned into a hill, and the villagers began to be impressed by the children's perseverance and joined in the action of collecting stones, quarrying stones, and repairing bridges.
Craftsmen were also invited, and the construction of the stone bridge began in earnest. The disabled child devoted himself to this cause, and although he unfortunately broke his eye while digging stones, he did not complain and continued to work as hard as he could on the bridge site every day.
With the joint efforts of everyone, the stone bridge was finally completed. While people celebrated the victory, they all cast admiration and sympathy for this miserable but determined child. Although he can no longer see the world, his face has a happy smile that he has never seen before.
However, fate did not seem to favor the child. During a sudden rainstorm, he was attacked by a huge thunderbolt and unfortunately died. People were shocked, lamenting and grieving his passing, and at the same time expressing indignation at the injustice of the heavens.
At this moment, Bao Zheng and Bao Xianggong, who is known as the master of Qingtian, happened to patrol here. The people stopped his official sedan chair one after another and cried out for the child. They asked Bao Xianggong: Why do good people always get good rewards? How can people do good deeds in the future? Bao Xianggong was infected by the emotions of the villagers, and in a fit of anger, he wrote down the six big words "Rather do evil than good" and left angrily.
After returning to the capital, Bao Xianggong played the matter to the emperor, but concealed his inscription. He had always been puzzled and puzzled by the fact that the child had done good and received evil retribution, but after some careful consideration, he felt that those six words were indeed too extreme and inappropriate. However, to his surprise, the emperor specially summoned him after retiring from the court, and it turned out that a line of handwriting appeared on the arm of the emperor's new little prince, which was the six words written by Bao Xianggong before.
Bao Xianggong was shocked when he saw this, and hurriedly reached out to wipe the handwriting. Miraculously, under his wipe, the handwriting on the little prince's arm disappeared without a trace in an instant. It turned out that those six words were legible in the eyes of Bao Xianggong, but in the eyes of others, they were just a strangely shaped birthmark. The emperor mistakenly thought that Bao Xianggong had wiped off the little prince's blessings, so he was furious and reprimanded him.
Bao Xianggong hurriedly knelt down to explain what happened and what happened. When the emperor heard this, he felt that something was wrong, so he ordered Bao Xianggong to use the yin and yang pillow to go to the underworld. In the underworld, Bao Xianggong finally learned the truth of the matter: it turned out that the child had done a lot of evil and sins in his previous life, and he needed to go through three evil retributions to pay off his debts. God had arranged for him to be lonely and disabled in his first life, blind in his second life, and killed by lightning in his third life. However, in the first life, he had already changed his past mistakes and worked hard to accumulate virtue, so God allowed him to pay off the sins of the first two lives within one life. Although he was unfortunately killed by lightning later, this is also the third evil retribution he should repay.
Lord Yama said to Bao Zheng: "He has returned the karma of the third life in one life, because he specializes in good deeds and does not think about himself, he has reached the realm of 'not cultivating the Tao is already in the Tao', and he has accumulated a lot of virtues. Therefore, immediately after his death, he became the current prince and enjoyed the blessings of the Son of Heaven. "This can be regarded as the reward for his good deeds.
Therefore, it is said that the reason why good deeds are not rewarded may be because of deficiencies in previous lives; If you don't see evil retribution, it may be because you have more virtue in your previous life. But in any case, we should uphold kindness and do more good deeds, because the reincarnation of cause and effect is an immutable law in the universe. Only by doing more good deeds and eliminating evil thoughts and karma in our hearts can we increase our merit and good fortune and attain inner peace and happiness.
