During this period, many schools in China were announced to change their names to "universities". Why do universities insist on changing their names? There are three reasons for this:

Shenyang Medical University is a provincial key medical university in Liaoning Province, with a history of 75 years dating back to the founding of the People's Republic of China, Shenyang Higher School of Nursing. Shenyang Health Higher Nursing School is a senior nursing school with a long history, which has gone through several periods such as Shenyang Health Technology School, Shenyang Health School, Shenyang Health School, Shenyang Health School and Shenyang Medical School, and was upgraded from a higher nursing school to an undergraduate degree in 1987 and renamed Shenyang Medical University.
The development process of Shenyang Medical University has changed from a secondary vocational school to an ordinary higher education school, and although there have been passes during the period, the overall development trend is relatively stable. Compared with Wannan Medical College, Gannan Medical College, and Bengbu Medical College, which were established at the same time, there is a difference of more than ten years. Many schools in Anhui and Jiangxi have changed their names to "medical universities", but Shenyang Medical College has not changed its name, mainly because the development speed of the northeast region is too slow, and it is time to change its name.
Shenyang Medical University has become a multidisciplinary comprehensive medical university, with 5 directly affiliated hospitals, 13 medical schools not directly affiliated to it, 34 teaching hospitals, 87 clinical clerkship and training bases, and 1 directly affiliated medical school. The school has 27 majors in medicine, science, management, engineering, etc., with 2 second-level majors and 2 second-level majors, one is public health, one is clinical medicine, and the other is public health.
Shenyang Medical University ranks 50th in the 2023 ranking of soft science universities, which is a significant improvement compared with 2021 and 2022.
Shenyang Medical College has all the requirements of a "medical university" in terms of professional construction, and the only thing that is lacking is the number of master's degrees. They are characterized by clinical medicine and basic medicine, which are well-known throughout Northeast China, and their internships and employment after graduation have been recognized by major hospitals.
As for the future development direction, some people also said: Is it possible to integrate Shenyang Medical College with institutions such as Liaoning University? If Shenyang Medical University can successfully change its name and form a new Liaoning University with Liaoning University and Shenyang Institute of Technology, it will not only fill the medical shortcomings of Liaoning University, but also shorten the distance between Liaoning University and Dalian University of Science and Technology in the province.
Personally, I think it will be difficult to integrate Shenyang Medical and Liaoning University in the short term. Originally, Northeastern University and China Medical College also had the idea of merging, but in the end it was not completed, otherwise, their strength would definitely surpass the first-class medical schools in China.
