The spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the European Union (CMG) remarks a reporter's question on China-related content of the European Parliament's Foreign Policy Annual Report
Q: On February 28, the European Parliament adopted the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Report 2023 by a vote of 338 in favour, 86 against and 122 abstentions. Do you have any comment?
A: The China-related content of the report of the European Parliament seriously tramples on international law and basic norms governing international relations, infringes on China's sovereignty, and grossly involves China's internal affairs. China is deeply shocked by this, firmly opposes it, and condemns it in the strongest terms. The report openly advocates "challenging the one-China principle and making a big deal for the forces," exposing the ignorance of certain European politicians about history and reality, as well as the dark features of vainly trying to obstruct the great cause of China's reunification.
The one-China principle is a basic norm governing international relations universally observed by the international community. There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate representative of the whole of China. This was made clear by General Assembly resolution 2758 of 1971. When China and the EU established diplomatic relations in 1975, the EU side explicitly undertook to adopt a position accepted by the People's Republic of China on the Taiwan issue and not to maintain any official relations with Taiwan or conclude any agreement. China must be reunified, and it will be reunified, and no one or any force can stop it. We urge those politicians to read more, abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop making irresponsible remarks, do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations, and refrain from being ridiculed and generous in front of the world again.
