From the 70s to the 90s of the last century, the Yunnan section of the Sino-Vietnamese border left behind more than 100 chaotic minefields of various sizes and an area of nearly 300 square kilometers due to war.
From 1994 to 2008, Yunnan successively organized two large-scale mine clearances and one boundary survey and mine clearance in the Yunnan section of the Sino-Vietnamese border. Because of the existence of landmines, it has seriously threatened the safety of local residents, in order to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
In July 2015, the PLA mobilized more than 400 people to form a mine-clearing unit and went to the Yunnan section of the China-Vietnam border to conduct the third large-scale mine-clearing operation. Because the minefields with mines left behind are all in mountainous and forested areas with steep slopes, it is impossible to use mechanical automatic demining, and if the method of detonation is used, it is impossible to guarantee that all mines will be cleared without omission, so the demining officers and men can only carry out manual demining.
However, the irregular distribution of mines in the mountains, coupled with the fact that decades have passed, the performance of mines has become extremely unstable, and operating in unknown minefields is a life-and-death test at every step.
On October 11, 2018, Du Fuguo and his comrade-in-arms Ai Yan were carrying out intense minesweeping operations in the Bazi minefield on the west side of Laoshan Mountain in Malipo County, Yunnan Province, but what he didn't know was that a fatal danger was slowly approaching the two.
It turned out that Du Fuguo was in the minesweeping work, found an unknown grenade, after he checked whether there were other ** objects around, he turned to Ai Yan and told Ai Yan "You take a few steps back", and then, Du Fuguo cautiously, with a small brush to clear the floating soil around the bomb body little by little, suddenly, an earth-shattering bang, ** happened in an instant.

The injured Du Fuguo was rushed to the hospital by his comrades-in-arms, and after all-out rescue, although Du Fuguo snatched back his life from the brink of death, he lost his hands and eyes forever, and there were more than 70 scars all over his body.
Du Fuguo joined the army in 2010, when he took the initiative to choose to the border troops, in 2015 the army selected the backbone of the formation of a mine-sweeping brigade, Du Fuguo wrote such a paragraph in the war book: "At that time, I thought about what kind of life, is really meaningful and valuable, I see, the only standard of measurement, is really for the country, for the people to do something, I feel that this is my mission, a voice told me, I want to go to minesweeping." ”
Since that time, Du Fuguo and more than 400 comrades-in-arms from different units have rushed to the mine-clearing battlefield without hesitation, they wear 20-kilogram protective clothing, walk among the lofty mountains and mountains, and have zero contact with all kinds of dangerous objects, and in three years, the mine-sweeping officers and soldiers have searched and cleared nearly 200,000 mines and various types of mines.
On the afternoon of November 16, 2018, 36 days after Du Fuguo was wounded, his comrades-in-arms cleared the last minefield and returned this safe land to the local people in a "hand-in-hand" manner.
If the minefield used to be Du Fuguo's battlefield, then after being seriously wounded, the Southwest Hospital of the Army Medical University became Du Fuguo's "new battlefield", although he lost his hands and eyes, but he won the appreciation of all doctors with his amazing perseverance and optimistic attitude.
From the very beginning, he couldn't walk, eat, dress, go to the toilet, or wash, and with his continuous efforts, these difficult movements could be completed alone.
In order to restore the life of former soldiers, in 2019, Du Fuguo was newly equipped with a movable mechanical prosthesis, which allowed him to gain the ability to hold items, although he still did not master the power of the prosthesis, and could not distinguish the positive and negative of the items, but after every successful completion of the action, a smile would appear on Du Fuguo's face.
In August 2020, Du Fuguo became the announcer of the army radio program "Voice of the Southern Continent", and he used his sonorous voice to tell more meaningful stories.
In July 2022, Du Fuguo signed up for Guizhou University's ** Higher Education Administration and Management major, and successfully graduated, and becoming an announcer and a college graduate are just Du Fuguo's careful wishes, and returning to the army is his greatest expectation.
Accompanied by his family and medical staff, Du Fuguo trained on a special treadmill, from 3 km, 5 km to 10 km, and his physical fitness has gradually returned to the state he was in before the injury. Challenging the difficult plank, from 10 seconds, 20 seconds to more than 40 seconds, Du Fuguo used his practical actions to interpret the perseverance and mentality of being a soldier.
