Chengyi's "Clown Doctor" volunteer service team
In December 2015, the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College launched the "Clown Doctor" volunteer service project. The hospital recruited more than 40 volunteers from the medical staff of various clinical departments and college students of Chengdu Medical College. Over the next 8 years, the team grew to form a team of volunteers who spread joy and love.
We improve children's experience and reduce their fear of hospitals and medical staff through distractions, simulation games, reading**, magic and interactive games, and a children's library in the paediatric ward. Speaking of the clown doctor's "treatment principle", Ning Xuemei, the captain of the volunteer service team and the head of pediatrics, said.
Not only for children, but also for the psychological burden of long-term illness of elderly patients, team members improve the quality of life of elderly patients by playing chess, reading, singing Peking Opera, and listening to the elderly tell their own stories.
While providing ward care services for patients in local and surrounding hospitals, the team also uses the special form of clown medical treatment to promote hand hygiene, influenza prevention, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Heimlich first aid and other health science knowledge, and has also successively carried out a number of clown doctor ward care volunteer service activities with Jinniu District People's Hospital, Pengzhou Second Hospital, Xinfan Second Hospital, Qingbaijiang District Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Qingchengshan Nursing Home and other hospitals, so as to promote this form of service that meets the needs of the people to grassroots medical institutions.
In the past year, the team has carried out more than 20 ward care activities, served more than 500 patients, and carried out more than 10 health education activities in communities, schools and nursing homes, promoting medical humanistic care into wards and improving the public's awareness of disease prevention and treatment.

According to Yin Xiping, the student leader of the team and a 2022 medical imaging major, the 2017 "Clown Doctor" student volunteer service team won the "Sichuan Gold Award of the 3rd National Volunteer Exchange Competition" and the "National Silver Award of the 3rd National Volunteer Exchange Competition".

In response to the call of the country and focusing on remote areas, the "Clown Doctor" team focuses on vulnerable groups and out-of-school children to carry out volunteer service activities. In 2022, the team raised more than 1,000 books and more than 20,000 yuan of social funds for Pujiang Yulin School and children in remote areas to fund and provide health assistance, which was well received by the school and the masses.
In 2017, the clown doctor team opened the elective course "Clown Doctor Classroom" in Chengdu Medical College to teach the professional theory of "clown doctor" to college students, and cultivate students' doctor-patient communication skills, stage performance ability and teamwork spirit through special lectures, outreach training and clown medical internships, and enrich the educational content of the humanistic connotation of medical students' professional values.
So far, the cumulative number of students taking this course has reached 710. In 2021, the course was approved as a "Provincial First-class Course" by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education. In terms of scientific research, the team is applying for the establishment of 1 clown doctor volunteer service related society organization, 4 scientific research projects have been approved, and 2 related articles have been published.
In order to promote this medical humanistic service model nationwide, the team has invited Israeli and Italian clown medical teams to China for many times to carry out exchange and learning activities, and has hosted 3 international "clown medical" training courses so far; At the invitation of the First Affiliated Hospital of Peking University and the People's Hospital of Pidu District, he carried out two training courses on the volunteer service network of clown doctors, and completed the training of more than 100 "clown doctors" nationwide.
Through 8 years of hard work, the clown doctor team has become a leader in Sichuan and domestic "clown medical" services, and has been successively publicized and reported by *** People**, China.com, Cover News, China News Service, Sichuan Provincial Health Commission official website, Sichuan Observation, Sichuan News Network, Chengdu Business Daily and many other ** propaganda reports.
