On March 5, 2024, the "Forum on Helping the Construction of Bozhou World Capital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmaceutical Economic Development" hosted by the Anhui Chamber of Commerce of Chinese Medicinal Materials and other units was held at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel in Bozhou City.
In their keynote speeches, a number of experts at the forum emphasized the importance of the planting of Chinese herbal medicines, such as heavy application of nitrogen fertilizer, imbalance of nutrient elements, continuous cropping obstacles and other problems, which have seriously affected the yield and quality of Chinese herbal medicines. To sum up, at present, in the cultivation of Chinese herbal medicines, there are generally the following four pain points:
First, the enrichment of heavy metals exceeds the standard and pesticide residues; second, soil fertility declines and continuous cropping obstacles are serious; third, the content of active ingredients in Chinese herbal medicines decreases and the efficacy degrades; Fourth, blind excessive fertilization and serious non-point source pollution.
Through years of experimental research, experts in the industrial technology system of "two uses" believe that biochar-based fertilizer has many functions and has great potential to solve the pain points in the cultivation of Chinese medicinal materials.
Biochar-based fertilizer refers to a new type of fertilizer made of biochar as a carrier and compounded with conventional chemical fertilizer or organic fertilizer.
At present, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has promulgated two related industry standards, "Biochar-based Fertilizer" (NY T3041-2016) and "Biochar-based Organic Fertilizer" (NY 3618-2020), which have promoted the marketization process of biochar-based fertilizer.
In July 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the "Notice on Carrying out the 2020 Leading Technology Integration Demonstration Work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs", and the straw charcoal-based fertilizer utilization and efficiency technology was listed as one of the top ten leading technologies.
During the forum, the experts of the "two utilizations" industrial technology system in Anhui Province and the technical personnel of the Chinese herbal medicine planting base and fertilizer production enterprises in Bozhou City conducted a full discussion, and reached a cooperation intention in the research and development of carbon-based fertilizer for Chinese herbal medicine and the management of Chinese herbal medicine cultivation and cultivation. With the in-depth and large-scale promotion of the research and development of carbon-based fertilizers for Chinese herbal medicine, it will play its due role in helping Bozhou to build the world capital of traditional Chinese medicine.
