In February and March 1979, the border guards of the Chinese People's Liberation Army carried out self-defense and counter-attack operations under the provocation of the Vietnamese army. In the 10-year-long counterattack against Vietnam (intermittently), a large number of lovers sacrificed their young lives to defend the territory, which can be sung and cried. Gu Jinhai is such a martyr who died in the counterattack against Vietnam. He was born in Shanshuigou Village, Guojiaqiao Township, Lingwu County, Ningxia, and aspired to be a soldier since he was a child. In the winter of 1984, Gu Jinhai decided to join the army. At that time, his two elder brothers were still serving in the army, and the village cadres did not agree to his request at first, but the stubborn Gu Jinhai finally persuaded the village cadres to get their wish and become a glorious Chinese People's Liberation Army.
In the 1986 counterattack against Vietnam, Gu Jinhai successively submitted 18 war petitions to his superiors, requesting to fight on the battlefield, and was later transferred to the "Special Attack 5th Company and 9th Squad" that had repeatedly made military exploits on the battlefield to resist US aggression and aid Korea. After the "10.14" battle began, the first combat group of the commando composed of Gu Jinhai, Li Rubai, Bi Dongyu and others took up the assault mission, and under the cover of the PLA's artillery fire, it took only three minutes to break through the forward position of the Vietnamese army's 604 highland and plant the battle flag on the main peak.
At this time, the Vietnamese army hiding in a hidden cantonment cave threw a grenade at them, and at the critical moment, Gu Jinhai pounced on his comrades, his comrades-in-arms were fine, he was shot in the head and other places. Although he was seriously injured, Gu Jinhai didn't care about bandaging, but grabbed a bag of explosives, quietly crawled to the vicinity of the cantonment cave, and threw it in. The comrades-in-arms saw that Gu Jinhai was seriously injured, so they immediately retreated with him, but at this time, a shell from the Vietnamese army flew over and was beside them.
When retreating, Vietnamese artillery shells flew, Gu Jinhai used his last bit of strength to pounce on the seriously injured commando captain Ma Quanbin, the captain was rescued, but Gu Jinhai was shot in the back in many places and died heroically. Many years later, a soldier who had carried Gu Jinhai in that war recalled that he had carried Gu Jinhai to the position four times, but Gu Jinhai refused, and the last words he said before his death were: "Leave me alone, save the captain first!" ”
Before going to the battlefield, Gu Jinhai wrote in a letter to his parents: "If I die honorably in the war, please use the pension to pay the party fee for me for five years and scatter my ashes on the land of my hometown."
