"Mr. Ma, look, these are the fruit trees grafted with 'Shu Anvil No. 1' (citrus rootstock) last year, their leaves are thick green, and the fruits are symmetrical, which solves the problem of citrus 'lack of nutrients' and 'yellowing'. Recently, in the base of Qin orange orchard in Qingliu Town, Rongchang District, grower Qin Zhaohua pointed to the golden fruit in front of him and excitedly said to Ma Jianying, a member of the citrus expert team of Sichuan Agricultural University.

In the direction of his finger, lush citrus groves swayed in the wind, and the fruit trees in the forest were full of swollen, yellow oranges.

It is understood that the soil of Rongchang is alkaline, citrus is prone to "lack of nutrients", "yellowing", uneven fruit and other phenomena, this batch of citrus in Qincheng orchard can perfectly avoid these shortcomings, thanks to the implementation of the "new variety of citrus excellent rootstock" Shu Anvil No. 1 "Achievement Transformation" agricultural science and technology project implemented by the District Science and Technology Bureau in the orchard last year.

In May last year, Qin Zhaohua, a grower of Qin orange orchard, under the guidance of the district science and technology commissioner and the citrus expert team of Sichuan Agricultural University, carried out the "Shu Anvil No. 1" (citrus rootstock) grafting test on 10 acres of citrus trees - use a knife to make a vertical incision at 40 cm of the citrus tree, insert the bud head of "Shu Anvil No. 1" (citrus rootstock) into the incision, and wrap the rootstock around the rootstock with a film for grafting. After a year of experimentation, it finally came to fruition.

At present, the experimental effect is obvious, the grafted citrus tree body is robust and the root system is more developed, the fruit size is symmetrical and the peel thickness is moderate, the leaves are thick green and the leaf size is moderate, and the problems of 'nutrient deficiency' and 'yellowing' are also overcome. Qin Zhaohua said happily.

In the next step, the District Science and Technology Bureau will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the citrus expert team of Sichuan Agricultural University, invite it to Rongrong to carry out "Shu Anvil No. 1" (citrus rootstock) related technical training, share scientific, reasonable and effective planting new technologies with fruit farmers, and help Rongchang citrus industry improve quality and efficiency.
