A short-term direction of efforts for extended-range electric vehicles is to improve the thermal efficiency of fuel engines, at present, the thermal efficiency of range extenders is generally about 41%, and there is still a relatively large room for improvement. Another effort is to increase battery capacity and density to increase range.

The long-term direction of extended-range electric vehicles should be looking forward to the popularization and breakthrough of power batteries and hydrogen energy, China's current new energy policy is mainly to develop electric vehicles and increase charging piles, in fact, the main purpose of this policy is to solve China's energy security problems. From the point of view of production** and power generation, pure electric vehicles are not completely clean energy.
