In 1992, Li Pu, a former reporter accompanying the Second Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, wrote a book called "Remembering Liu Shuai" based on his experience of interviewing Liu Deng and the two leaders in the Liberation War.
In this work, Li Pu vividly depicted the image of ***, which not only won praise in the literary world, but also was recognized by Liu Shuai's family, and was known as the letter history of *** biography.
When Liu Shuai talked about the Huaihai Campaign, he mentioned the tactic of "eating one, sandwiching one, and watching one".
He described the two phases of the Huaihai Campaign, which involved Huang Baitao, Huang Wei, Du Yuming, Liu Ruming, Li Yannian and other enemy regiments.
This vivid presentation shows the complex situation on the battlefield at that time, as well as the ingenious response strategy of the enemy army.
However, the description in Li Pu's book aroused a different opinion from Wang Bicheng, commander of the Sixth Column of the East China Field Army.
Wang Bicheng believes that the phrase "look at one" weakened his combat contribution when he blocked Liu Ruming and Li Yannian's corps on the southern front.
He recalled the pressure and hardships in the northwestern resistance battle of Beng, and stressed the importance of positional blocking.
The Bengbei Resistance Battle was part of the Huaihai Campaign and was considered to be a battle on a par with the Xudong Blockade.
In this battle, the six columns led by Wang Bicheng annihilated more than 7,000 enemies and defended the position with blood and hard work. His persistence and efforts became the bright spot in the Huaihai Campaign, demonstrating the PLA's tenacious fighting spirit under difficult conditions.
Overall, the Huaihai Campaign was a major victory for our army, and every general made outstanding contributions to it.
Through Li Pu's account and Wang Bicheng's recollection, we have a more comprehensive understanding of the complexity of the war situation at that time and the heroic struggle of the People's Liberation Army.
