The construction of an international science and technology innovation center is not only a strategic fulcrum for promoting Chinese-style modernization through scientific and technological modernization, but also a strategic focus for accelerating the construction of a new development pattern, accelerating the cultivation of national strategic scientific and technological forces, accelerating the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-reliance, and accelerating the construction of a world scientific and technological power.

Recently, the 2023 International Science and Technology Innovation Center Development Forum, hosted by the Shanghai Science Research Association, was held in Shanghai. At the meeting, the Institute of Global Innovation and Development (ECNU GIS) of East China Normal University released the "Top 100 Global Science and Technology Innovation Centers" and "Top 100 Chinese Science and Technology Innovation Centers" and related reports.

The report points out that the "big triangle" pattern of global science and technology innovation continues to strengthen, with 95 cities in the top 100 global science and technology innovation centers in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, with the United States and China leading the development of global science and technology innovation centers.

The number of science and technology innovation centers from the United States has remained stable at 26 in the list of the top 100 global science and technology innovation centers, and San Jose has unwavering status as the world's top science and technology innovation center.

In China, 23 cities appear in the list, an increase of three from 20 in 2022, and five of the top 30 are second only to the United States. China's science and technology innovation centers are highly concentrated in 19 urban agglomerations, especially the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta urban agglomerations. At present, the development of science and technology innovation centers in the Yangtze River Delta has shown an obvious "wild goose cluster" effect, with 28 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region entering the top 100 in China, of which Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Suzhou are in the top 10 and are in the first phalanx.

Beijing and Shanghai are two major science and technology innovation cities in China. According to the list, Beijing's overall ranking in 2023 will rise from 5th in 2022 to 4th, surpassing Tokyo to rank first in the Asia-Pacific region, and continuing to rank first in the world in terms of global leadership in scientific research. At the same time, it is also the first in the country in the four degrees of innovation element agglomeration, scientific research guidance, technological innovation source and innovation ecological construction. Shanghai retains its 10th position in the world, and the city also ranks first in the country in terms of driving industrial change.

Although there has been a slight increase in Chinese cities among the world's top 100 cities, Beijing is the only city in China that ranks among the top 30 in terms of global support for the innovation environment, ranking only 25th in the world. The report points out that due to the dual impact of the science and technology game of major countries and the global epidemic, the construction of China's urban science and technology innovation environment is facing severe challenges.

The Science and Technology Innovation Board, which has been open for more than four years, is the vanguard of innovation in China's Science and Technology Innovation Board.
