Stockholm, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economics was awarded at a ceremony in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, on the 10th.
This year's Nobel Prize in Physics was won by Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krauss and Anne Lulier;The Chemistry Prize winners are Monji Bavendi, Louis Bruce and Alexei Yekimov;The Physiology or Medicine Prize was awarded to Katarin Kauriko and Drew Weisman;The Prize in Economics went to the American economist Claudia GoldingThe Literary Prize was awarded to the Norwegian writer Jon Fosse.
After the representatives of the selection committee presented the achievements of the winners, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden presented each winner with a Nobel Prize certificate, medal and prize money. Each Nobel Prize this year carries a prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1 million).
In his speech, Astrid Sedberg Widding, president of the Nobel Prize, said that at this historical moment of polarized views, social divisions, and ongoing conflicts, we need to believe in knowledge, enlightenment, and the pursuit of truth more than ever.
More than 1,000 people, including key members of the Swedish royal family and political leaders, attended the ceremony.
December 10 is the anniversary of the death of the Swedish chemist and inventor Nobel, and the Nobel Prize ceremony is held every year.
