Doha, December 10 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General António Guterres said at the Doha Forum in Qatar on December 10 that the main platform for the peaceful settlement of international disputes is trapped by geopolitical differences, but he will not give up promoting a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
Speaking at the opening of the 21st Doha Forum on the same day, Guterres urged the UN Security Council to work to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and renewed his call for a humanitarian ceasefire, "Regrettably, the Security Council has not been able to ......."I promise I won't give up".
On 8 July, the United States vetoed a draft resolution of the Security Council aimed at promoting a humanitarian ceasefire between Palestine and Israel. Many countries have expressed disappointment and regret over this.
Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed said at the opening of the forum that Qatar will continue to work with regional and international partners to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and that "our efforts have not stopped."
The Doha Forum is generally held once a year, focusing on regional and international situations and global challenges. The two-day forum will focus on topics such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, geopolitics, energy security, sustainable development, and digital economy.
