Recently, the "Action Plan for Continuous Improvement of Air Quality" was issued, which clearly states that it is necessary to vigorously develop new energy and clean energy. By 2025, the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption will reach about 20%, and the proportion of electricity in final energy consumption will reach about 30%. This move will further promote the cement industry to accelerate the process of new energy.

In February 2022, the national government issued the "Implementation Guide for Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Transformation and Upgrading in Key Areas of High Energy-consuming Industries (2022 Edition)", which pointed out in the work direction of the implementation guide for energy conservation and carbon reduction transformation and upgrading in the cement industry that cement enterprises are encouraged to use their own facilities and sites to implement waste heat and pressure utilization, alternative fuels, distributed power generation, etc., and strive to improve the energy "self-sufficiency" ability of enterprises and reduce their dependence on fossil energy and external electricity.

For a long time, the energy structure of the cement industry has mainly been coal and electricity, but in recent years, with the requirements of "double carbon" and other requirements, the cement industry has been laid out in advance, actively expanding the new energy track, and has achieved good results.

At present, the two mainstream practices of cement enterprises are to directly lay out the new energy industry and develop it into a major main business, and apply new energy technology to the cement industry to achieve energy optimization. From the perspective of current technology and business maturity, the photovoltaic industry is the most important sector of the cement industry in the field of new energySecondly, the use of wind energy, biomass energy, the use of clean energy hydrogen energy, natural gas and cement enterprises are also involved, but the proportion is relatively low.

Before 2012, China's photovoltaic industry developed slowly, after 2013, under the favorable policy of vigorously developing the domestic market, the photovoltaic industry entered the fast lane of development, and in 2021, after China entered the first year of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the development speed of the photovoltaic market was further accelerated, and the new installed capacity reached 55GW that year.

The real layout of the photovoltaic industry in the cement industry also began in 2021, and the current capacity of the cement industry is close to 1GW.

As a leading cement company, Conch Cement has a generous layout in new energy. In August 2021, Conch Cement acquired 100% of the equity of Conch New Energy held by Conch Investment Company, and Conch Cement made substantial progress in the layout of new energy. In 2022, the business development progress of Conch New Energy will accelerate, the registered capital of Conch New Energy will increase from 500 million yuan to 5 billion yuan, and Conch New Energy will independently invest in the establishment of 53 new energy companies during the year, with an installed capacity of 475MW of photovoltaic storage and power generation at the end of the year. In 2023, Conch will further accelerate the integrated development of wind, solar, water and storage in the new energy industry, and as of June 2023, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation will reach 513MW. Data shows that in 2022, Conch Cement will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% throughout the year40,000 tons. Save standard coal through clean energy power generation310,000 tons, including 2 photovoltaic power generation4.6 billion kWh, a reduction of 14090,000 tons, accounting for 69 percent of clean energy power generation emission reduction1%。

This year, two cases, Jining Conch Cement Co., Ltd.'s zero-purchased power smart microgrid and Gezhouba Yicheng Cement's *** industrial green microgrid, were included in the list of typical application scenarios and cases of industrial green microgrid in 2023. Among them, Gezhouba Yicheng Cement makes full use of renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics, lithium battery energy storage, and low-temperature waste heat, and has now maximized the utilization of green micro-electricity, accounting for 40% of the total energy consumption of production39%。

The implementation guide for energy-saving and carbon-reduction transformation and upgrading of the cement industry also points out that it is necessary to promote a large proportion of alternative fuel technology, use domestic waste, solid waste and biomass fuel to replace coal and reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.

By the end of 2022, Huaxin Cement had used more than 15 million tons of waste-derived alternative fuels, and the average TSR (fuel substitution rate) of the company's kiln line factories reached 15., according to Huaxin Cement when participating in the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) Leaders' Summit in June this year9%, much higher than China's cement industry 15% average. Among them, the company's state-of-the-art Huangshi 10,000-ton line plant TSR has reached more than 40%, which is currently the production line with the lowest carbon emissions per unit of clinker in China. In addition to the early use of domestic waste and solid waste as alternative fuels in the cement industry, biomass fuels have the characteristics of low pollution and low cost compared with coal, and have good economic and social benefits. In 2018, Conch built the first biomass fuel system in Battambang, Cambodia, based on the advantages of local large-scale rice planting, and in 2020, the first biomass alternative fuel system in China's cement industry was built in Zongyang Conch.

Recently, China Resources Cement has carried out an adaptive planting experiment of space reed bamboo in Tianyang, Guangxi. Studies have shown that the growth rate of space reed bamboo is faster, the plant is stronger, and the yield per mu is higher than that of ordinary reed bamboo. After harvesting, it can be used as an alternative fuel after simple processing, and the calorific value of combustion is 10-20% higher than that of conventional biomass, and the combustion rate is equivalent to that of bituminous coal. It is believed that in the near future, it will also open up a new way for the cement industry to optimize the energy structure!

The application of hydrogen energy as an ideal clean energy in the cement industry is still in the research and development stage, and it takes a long time for large-scale application. Fortunately, as a carrier of hydrogen energy, green ammonia fuel has been applied to Donghua Cement's clinker production line with a daily output of 5,000 tons as an alternative fuel for cement production.

Liangping Conch Cement is implementing the cement kiln clean energy substitution project, and the cement kiln is being transformed into natural gas coupling combustion, including the transformation of the burner and the installation of intelligent control systemsImplement the transformation of biomass alternative fuels in cement kilns, and build a new temporary storage warehouse for biomass alternative fuels, supporting crushing systems, metering and conveying systems, and pre-ignition furnaces. After the completion of the project, the fuel used for cement clinker calcination was adjusted from raw coal to raw coal + natural gas + biomass alternative fuel, and the consumption of raw coal increased from 26850,000 t a adjusted to raw coal 2460,000 t a, 99.2 million m a of natural gas, and 150,000 t a of biomass alternative fuels are comprehensively utilized annually. The use of raw coal has dropped by 9%.

It is worth mentioning that in terms of transportation, new energy pure electric mining trucks and new energy cement tankers are gradually replacing the use of traditional diesel vehicles to support the development of new energy in the cement industry.

It is believed that with the continuous efforts of the cement industry in the optimization of energy structure, the use of new energy in the cement industry will account for a higher and higher proportion. Helping to achieve the 2025 work goal required by the implementation guidelines for energy-saving and carbon-reduction transformation and upgrading of the cement industry - the cement industry has achieved remarkable energy-saving and carbon-reduction results, and the green and low-carbon development capacity has been greatly enhanced.
