The black box, also known as the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), is one of the important safety devices on the aircraft. Its main function is to record the flight data of the aircraft and the sound in the cockpit when the aircraft has an accident, providing important information for the accident investigation.
The black box is usually installed at the tail end of the aircraft, and the exact location may vary depending on the aircraft model. On most large civil aircraft, the black box is generally located near the galley or toilet at the rear of the aircraft. The selection of the installation location is mainly considered that the black box can withstand large impact and fire grilling in the event of an accident to ensure the integrity of the recorded data.
The installation process of a black box generally includes the following steps:
According to the aircraft maintenance manual or related information, find the specific installation location of the black box.
At the installation location, locate the fixing bracket or mount for the black box. Brackets or mounts are usually made of metal and are fixed to the structure of the aircraft.
Place the black box on the bracket or mount, making sure that the bottom of the black box fits flat with the bracket or mount.
Fix the black box to the bracket or mount using the appropriate screws as required by the manual.
Connect the power and data cables to the black box. The power cord is usually connected to the aircraft's power system, and the data cable is connected to the aircraft's flight data acquisition system.
Check whether the black box is installed firmly and whether the connection line is normal. After confirming that the black box is working properly, complete the installation.
It should be noted that different models of aircraft may use different black box installation methods, so in practice, please be sure to refer to the maintenance manual or related materials of the specific aircraft model.
