Hit the first health day of COP28 to explore the impact of climate change on human health

On December 3, the reporter learned from the official 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) that at 9 a.m. local time on December 3, COP28 held a plenary meeting of the "Reaching the Last Mile Forum 2023". In doing so, the conference will spark new momentum, innovation and investment to solve the climate health challenges facing last-mile communities.

The event is expected to be a platform for assessing the impact of climate change on human health, with a focus on "last mile" efforts to end diseases such as polio, malaria and neglected tropical diseases;At the same time, recognizing that inclusive healthcare systems are critical to mitigating the impacts of the climate crisis, discussions will advance innovations, initiatives, and financing models for sustainable and equitable healthcare where they are needed most.

It is also understood that a later date, the "Health Day Opening Session: Unleashing Political and Financial Commitments" session was also held. This event will announce new health climate finance and projects that address national priorities and needs. The conference will showcase concrete commitments and progress from **, international organizations, development banks, philanthropies and the private sector.

Both meetings were part of the first-ever Health Day (Sanitation Day) event. Previously, the UAE Presidency of COP28, together with WHO, Wellcome Trust and other partners, designated 3 December as COP's first Health Day.

According to the organisers, the day will focus on five key themes: showcasing the evidence base and clear impact pathways between climate change and human healthPromote the "health case for climate action" and the health co-benefits of climate change mitigation;Highlight needs, barriers and best practices for strengthening the climate resilience of health systems;Identify and scale up adaptation measures to address the impacts of climate change on human health;Action on the relationship between health and relief, recovery and peace.

It is reported that the first health day of COP28 will hold a number of themed activities.
