These aspheric cylindrical lenses are a version of the aspheric lens' cylindrical form;It has the advantage of small aberrations on aspheric surfaces and the one-dimensional focusing performance of standard cylindrical lenses. Cylindrical lenses are ideal for applications that require one-dimensional magnification. While spherical lenses act on incident light in both the two-dimensional direction, cylindrical lenses only act in the one-dimensional direction. A typical application is the distortion shaping of a beam using a pair of cylindrical lenses. A pair of cylindrical lenses can collimate the outgoing beam of the laser diode and round its spot. Another possible application is to use a single cylindrical lens to focus a beam of divergent light onto a detector array.
These cylindrical lenses are slightly different from true cylindrical surfaces and minimize the aberrations introduced, resulting in a wavefront error of 500 nm (rms). These lenses are made of S-LAH64 glass, which has low dispersion and a high refractive index to minimize chromatic aberration.
