The reason why the seventy-two changes can make people immortal is because this supernatural power can help cultivators avoid the "three calamities", and the so-called "three calamities" are actually "heavenly thunder, yin fire, and yin wind", these three calamities are the calamities that every cultivator will suffer in the process of cultivation, and the calamities will appear accordingly every five hundred years.
It is said that Sun Wukong has learned seventy-two changes, which means that he can live forever, however, when Sun Wukong returned to Huaguo Mountain after learning, he was brought into the netherworld by two soul envoys from the underworld when he was drunk, and this means that Sun Wukong's yang life at this time has ended.
To put it bluntly, Sun Wukong has died at this time, and Sun Wukong is extremely reluctant to accept his "untimely death", he thinks that the staff of the underworld made a mistake, so it led to his death, so he took out the golden hoop stick and made a big fuss in the underworld.
Sun Wukong's skills are strong, although there are many people in the underworld, but no one dares to provoke him, in order to reduce losses and calm Sun Wukong's anger, so the Ten Palaces Yama asked the judge to take out the life and death book for Sun Wukong to consult.
After a check, Sun Wukong saw the length of his lifespan, and the original text of Journey to the West wrote:
Until the soul word No. 1350, the name of Sun Wukong was noted, and he was born a stone monkey, who should live 342 years old and die well.
In other words, Sun Wukong's life expectancy is only 342 years old, which is destined by God, and Sun Wukong at this time belongs to the end of his life, not that the underworld is ineffective.

In this way, their names are no longer in the book of life and death, which means that they will live forever from now on. After doing all this, the angry Monkey King went all the way out of the underworld.
Of course, for this matter, after waking up, Sun Wukong thought that he had a dream, and in his dream, he could naturally do whatever he wanted.
However, after being hit hard by Sun Wukong, the underworld has already written a statement to sue in the heavenly court, and in the expression, a major crime for Sun Wukong is: making trouble in Senluo and forcibly selling his name.
So the question is, Sun Wukong changed the book of life and death, why didn't Lord Yama change it back?
In this regard, Tang Gu believes that there are nothing more than the following three reasons:
First, there is only one book of life and death, and there is no backup, Sun Wukong ticked off the names of himself and all the monkeys in Huaguo Mountain, which means that the names and lifespans of these monkeys have become unknown.
Therefore, Hades, who has no backup, can only be left to his own;
Second, Sun Wukong's powerful Lord Yama has already been taught, if the book of life and death is changed to the original, then it means that Sun Wukong will be taken back to the underworld, and at that time, Sun Wukong will make a big fuss again, which Hades can't bear, so he can only go with him.
Third, the lifespan of each person in the book of life and death is determined by heaven, but before that, the king of Hades had also tampered with the book of life and death, that is, he added ten years of longevity for Li Shimin.
Of course, this kind of behavior must have been done more than once, and if this behavior is discovered by the Jade Emperor one day, Hades will definitely not end well.
At this time, Sun Wukong tampered with the book of life and death, which was just enough to solve this heart problem for the king of Hades, and if the Jade Emperor came to check in the future, he only needed to push these bad debts to Sun Wukong.
In a sense, Sun Wukong's troubles in the underworld to change the book of life and death are also a good thing for Hades.
