[**Yangjiang City People** Department Information].
Recently, a middle-aged man went to the Municipal People's Hospital for "double vision in the left eye and weak eyelid lifting", and the examination found that it was caused by a huge cyst in the frontal sinus that compressed the eyeball and related muscles. After surgery**, the patient has been discharged**.
According to reports, the patient had double vision in the left eye about half a month ago, and the eyelid lifting was weak, and there was no abnormality in the visual acuity and fundus related examinations at the local eye hospital, and the subsequent CT examination showed the left frontal sinus lesion. Anxious patients and their families came to the Municipal People's Hospital and asked for hospitalization**.
Yang Jizhi, director of the Department of Otolaryngology of the Municipal People's Hospital, introduced that after a perfect examination, it was considered that the patient's left eye vision double, eyelid lifting weakness, and limited eye movement were caused by the left frontal sinus mucocele compressing the eyeball and related muscles. At the same time, due to the large size of the cyst, about 15 mm and 39 mm, the bone at the base of the skull and part of the forehead bone is also destroyed and absorbed, and grows into the skull. Director Yang Jizhi's team performed nasal endoscopic surgery for the patient, and finally successfully removed the frontal sinus cyst. The patient recovered well after surgery, and the symptoms of double vision in the left eye, weak eyelid lifting, and limited eye movement basically recovered.
According to Yang Jizhi, sinus mucocele is the most common type of sinus cyst, which mostly occurs in the ethmoid sinus, followed by the frontal sinus, and the maxillary sinus is less common, and the primary sphenoid sinus is rare. It is more common in young and middle-aged people, and children under 10 years of age do not suffer from this disease. In the early stages of the disease, there may be no discomfort, but later the mucocele gradually grows and compresses the cyst wall, which can cause headache. If it protrudes into the orbit, the eye can be displaced, and there are symptoms such as diplopia, tearing, and visual impairment. If the cyst develops upwards and compresses the pituitary gland, it can cause endocrine disorders such as amenorrhea, decreased libido, and diabetes insipidus. Cysts can develop into abscesses as secondary infections, which are extremely dangerous.
At present, nasal endoscopic surgery is mostly used in sinus mucocele surgery, and a wide passage is established between the affected sinuses and the nasal cavity while the cyst is removed, so as to facilitate drainage and prevention.
