Because of the cooperation relationship, I happen to know two very good doctors, and there is a lot of cooperation, so let's talk about the obvious feeling when I work with them.
His research interests are computer vision in CS.
A Ph.D. A from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Huawu, once had a Ph.D. in a year, and he dug a hole in the field of research and opened up a small direction, the Doctor National Award. When I graduated from my Ph.D., I had a total of 6 CCF-A and top journals. I'm about to go to a foreign post.
The other is Dr. B from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai 211, who once visited the Xi in MSRA and did some very basic and hard-core work, and has 1600+ Google Scholar citations so far. Two-time Ph.D. National Award. During the doctoral period, CCF-A, which has eight articles and one work, has participated in various competitions and won a lot of bonuses. The postdoc got the Boxin program.
Because everyone is a very powerful doctor in the industry, I hope not to pinpoint it to the individual, this answer is to answer the difference I feel, and I don't want to disturb the doctor I mentioned because of my answer. They have taught me so much and I am very grateful.
The importance of mentors was also mentioned in the comment area, which does have a very obvious impact. I don't want to be specific to the teacher's personal name, but it's all on this list: What are the good CV (computer vision) teams in China?

1.Guidance for IDEA. When I had an idea, I discussed it with them, and AB had two very good PhDs who could give great guidance. I have had similar experiences with my specific methods, and they will discuss them with me from the perspective of a reviewer, including but not limited to: "Is there still some ...... missing from your method?",I have previously posted a ***reviewer that is closer to yours and asked me,There is another way to ...... the network structure hereWhy didn't you go to the experiment?Then after the discussion, I felt as if I had jumped out of the current local optimum, and I was able to rethink my own *** from a broader and newer perspective, and then I went to re-experiment according to their suggestions. In one of the reviewers, one of the reviewers felt that our experiment was very thorough.
2.Motivation requirements for ***. abThey have very, very high requirements for what kind of motivation is and how to describe my motivation. Specifically, in the motivation of the article, I want to find very discriminating characteristics for my own ideas, and how to make the reviewer understand the difference between my article and others' in the most concise and efficient way. For the motivation in ***, we have discussed it together, and I don't know how many times I have changed it, just to be able to say the whole motivation more thoroughly and clearly.
3.The level of writing on ***. This is really a very high level of two excellent doctors. As a scientific research rookie, the meaning of the same sentence, after they helped me change it, the sentence became more concise, but the meaning expressed became more concise and clear. Very critical of the details of the article, requiring the overall article expression structure, the context of the article and the full text of the vocabulary have very strict requirements, very small details include but are not limited to, however when the word is applied, the focus of the upper and lower sentences is on **, and how to express the words on both sides of the connection. After the article is written as a whole, the characteristics are obvious, with ups and downs, and the key points can be highlighted. **The difference is particularly noticeable before and after the revision.
4.Communication skills. When communicating, be able to speak out, have a very good understanding ability, be able to quickly get the core of the idea, have a very strong expression ability, be able to explain your thoughts completely, and be sure to explain things that are not clear. I won't talk about it for a long time, and I can't get to the point.
5.Passion, love for what they do. It's really obvious. When we were chatting and exchanging ideas, we got a particularly interesting inspiration, and found that there was another solution to a long-standing problem that could be solved, and at the same time we all laughed hahahaha, and found that the more we talked about it, the more interesting it became. In the words, I can feel that I really like and agree with my research work, and I have a very high enthusiasm.
Above, I think this is how I have seen excellent doctoral students write *** on this. I think the most important of these five points are 4 and 5, and two excellent PhDs are really obvious on this.
In life, everyone is strange, but the core is that scientific research is done well, eating, drinking and having fun in life are not delayed, and they have their own small personalities. The personality is very cheerful, can talk and talk, and loves to laugh hhhhhh.

That's too big a gap. Fields Medals are also generally for PhDs.
If it is not an extreme exception, I graduated in the United States last year to do a PhD in mathematics in geometry, and I published 7 articles in the direction of ricci flow. Oh, a geometry Phd who recently retired because he didn't want to use his real name also had a double-digit publication, and now of course he is a big celebrity in the American post-Bo market. ——Experimental disciplines may think that PhD double-digit articles are not particularly impressive, so people's joys and sorrows are not connected.
Many excellent doctors cooperate with their supervisors, rather than purely helping their teachers, and sometimes they even have their own ideas and push teachers to think and verify. Ordinary doctors.,Some of them can't be pushed by the boss.。。 During my Ph.D. studies at Penn, I also met some PhDs (because I felt that I couldn't go on my academic path) quit, but their undergraduate schools are also good, and their undergraduate GPAs are also very good, and some undergraduates also have research experience and have published articles. It's not that simple, you have to try it out for yourself to find out if you're suitable for an academic path.

Let's talk about a financial circle, the academic and industrial circles have blossomed.
Cliff Asness, the founder and big boss of AQR, is a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago. His mentor was the Nobel Prize winner in economics, FAMA. He is considered to be FAMA's most favored student.
Cliff was highly valued by Fama, and he was very slippery, in fact, he later made several articles that were very influential in the financial world. Others come out of the holidays in the middle of the Ph.D. are all practical Xi, and he goes to Goldman Sachs in the middle of the Ph.D. to go to work officially. Today, the outside world does not know exactly what he did at Goldman Sachs during his Xi years, and in the end, Cliff rejected his mentor's expectation to let him stay in academia, and went to Wall Street after getting a doctorate. On his first day at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, GSAM had already prepared a team and a trading desk for him, so that he could put the quantitative concepts summarized during his PhD into practice (this is a historical event in modern quantitative trading on Wall Street). The starting point of Dr. Cliff's graduation directly surpassed the end of what most big writers and PhDs can strive for on Wall Street in their lifetimes.
The trading desk that Cliff set up for Goldman Sachs was what would later become known as the crown of Goldman Sachs' asset management: Global Alpha. At its peak, it was the world's largest (2007) and highest-return hedge** (Global Alpha was liquidated in 2011).
Follow-up: It only took Cliff 3 years at Goldman Sachs to complete the evolution of VP-MD-Partner, turning Global Alpha from scratch into a superstar**. Then a resignation that shocked the industry, starting with a Wall Street record-breaking fundraising of $1 billion (the subscription amount was $2 billion, which he felt was too much, and returned $1 billion), and established AQR.
Although many people on the street today have a bit of a disdain for AQR, Cliff's PhD graduation back then was really cool. There are too many awesome doctors on the street, but it seems that there is no one else at the beginning.
And Cliff is also the most passionate among traders in the world, AQR's academics are considered to be comparable to the first-class business schools (roughly equivalent to the level of 10-30 business schools in the world), and he can go back to the top business schools at any time to become a professor from the ** list after graduation.
ps: My wife once saw Asness's **, saying that she looked like a pig killer, a bit like a husband.

Low-level Ph.D.: **Idea and undergraduate graduation projects are indistinguishable;**The number is worrying, and I am worried about the delay all day long;
Ordinary doctorate: average mathematical ability, do brainless scientific research, sew and mend on other people's ideas;There are a lot of similar idea water**, but you can't publish a high-level journal, or a high-level article that hits the luck;
Excellent doctor: good mathematical skills, can be well-informed in scientific research, can dig out innovative points that others can't think of in existing knowledge, but still can't make breakthroughs in theory;High level**Sent to soft, cited exponentially**;
Dr. Da Niu: Very good mathematical foundation, making a major breakthrough in theory.
DomesticLow-level PhDFocusing on the direct doctorate, master's and doctor's degree admission, if you don't work hard, and the academic level of the supervisor is worrying, it is likely that it will still be a low level after many years;
Some old bloggers are self-righteousOrdinary Ph.DActually, they areLow-level PhD
Low-level PhDAfter the low quality ** is more, it is naturally promoted toOrdinary Ph.DIn essence, there is only a quantitative gap between the two, and there is no qualitative leap.
When you read the three and four Ph.D., the best of the ordinary doctors have a solid foundation in the previous few years, and those who can have a good taste in scientific research can be sublimatedExcellent PhD
Many post-60s and post-70s professors in China who have the right to speak in the academic world are not proficient in this field, and they essentially belong to themOrdinary Ph.DScope;
Recently, some post-80s, post-90s, post-90s, and post-90s Qingqian in various colleges and universities are significantly better than those born in the 60s and 70s in terms of academic tasteExcellent PhD

Ordinary doctoral students: Gain weight in the first year, insomnia in the second year, hair loss in the third year, depression in the fourth year, and feel that they are finally going to get rid of the sea of suffering in the fifth grade, and find that they are forced to postpone their completion.
Excellent doctoral student: Diamond's heart, he was killed by the boss and his face did not change his face, he talked and laughed with the conference speaker outside, withstood the idea crash, and the results were not significant, and he also gave psychological guidance to the younger students in his free time. When you graduate, you may go to the industry, you may have done an AP, you may have studied for a PhD, and no matter what you do, every excellent doctoral student deserves a psychological counselor certificate.
