Diving technical sports rules

The scoring rules for diving competitions are set by the International Swimming Federation (FINA), and the following are the basic principles for scoring diving competitions:

Execution:The base score for each action is given by the referee, and the number of referees varies according to the type of play. In a single or team event, there are usually 5 or 7 referees, while in a double match, there may be 9 or 11 referees. When calculating the base score, it is common to remove the highest and lowest scores and then sum the remaining scores.

Synchronisation (for doubles matches only):In a two-player match, the judges also rate the synchronized performance of the two players. The sync score is calculated in a similar way to the base score, with the highest and lowest scores removed and the remaining scores summed.

Degree of difficulty:The difficulty score is determined by the difficulty of the movement chosen by the athlete. Each action has a specific difficulty score, which is a decimal.

Final Score Calculation:The final score is the product of the base score and the difficulty score. That is, the final score = the base score and the difficulty score.

It is important to note that different types of matches (single, double, team) and the number of referees will lead to differences in how the base score is calculated. When calculating the base score, the purpose of removing the highest and lowest scores is to reduce the subjective influence of individual judges and make the scoring more objective. Synchronous points are mainly used in pairs matches to evaluate the synergistic performance of two players.
